I'm Pennsylvania Dutch (actually Pennsylvania German, but "Dutch" became the English word, possibly from "Wir sind Deutschen" or the fact that so many arrived on ships registered in Holland). In the post-WWII environment, speaking the dialect became less acceptable - to the point where teachers tried to erase any trace of "Dutchified" accent or usage from our speech. The old foks still talked Dutch among themselves, but not many in my generation learned it. (In fact, I've been told my accent is too "hoch Deutsch" - which is understandable, since my high school German teacher was an Estonian who married a German pastor.)
@ShabnamSuritaMTG

Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts. This is fascinating. I come from a community, where some people still feel uncomfortable in speaking the dialect in public. This stems from the fear that speaking a dialect separates us from the rest, and in India, the way we Sylhetis speak Bengali, also gets perceived as something 'less Indian' and 'more Bangladeshi'. I have a few family members who refrain from speaking Sylheti in public in India, even though we all have been in India since it became India. Self-censorship, especially for minority linguistic groups, is a very interesting global pattern. Schade, dass wir so wenig darüber reden!

Abortion is morally a taboo in African culture, but legally allowed by her governments and therefore, not punishable. Another taboo is homosexuallity, this time is both morally and legally prohibited and attracts imprisonments. Certain animals like Monkeys, Snakes, dogs, alligators, iguanas, etc, are also regarded as totems in some african cultyres amd are such not prohibited locally from killing or eating them.

To be honest, watching meet the germans had this kind of host charm back then. That charm vanished overnight without any prior notice. The new host is doing good, but without the time to build up that host style/charm. There's gonna be calls for the old host back. It would have been better or easier if the old host had to introduced the new one. Then to gradually transfer, giving the old host time to finish up their stuff. While giving the new host time to build up their style that is familiar to viewers. A quick out of the pan and into the fire is such a bad thing because it wastes the new host's potential in those first few videos.

The only national pride germanys shows in public is sprts-, especially soccer-related... :-3 And I think an abortion isn't really a taboo (nobody would speak of) in German society - but it IS still controversial. The main "conflict" the video reffers to surrounds about the information a gynecologist should oder shoulden't offer purposely on the internet. One of the main arguments of the counter movement was that doctors would made "abortion advertisement" openly on their websites.

Well there’s no taboo . Abortion is horrible ask the baby or a born child about his opinion of his parents getting ride of his brother or sister or the possibility that he could have been aborted. Definitely for me is not a taboo is basic Human Rights issue . I am a Christian , and is not even a matter of religion but of humanity, values and principles. Now a days is not acceptable with all the information around and birth controls. So the whole issue is basically very irresponsible for a couple to abort a child because : Oops 😬 we made a mistake and the baby is the one who suffers the consequences . No, the option is to be responsible; have your baby and keep she or him or place the baby in a loving family if not They are the ones that should be penalize. I am sorry if a sound harsh but is painful. Once I was in the waiting room of an accountant office and I picked a news paper that had an add section with many places advertising abortions for $25 up to 4 months pregnancy , I believe it was. Horrible 😞

So her words "exposing" the "backward" aspects of her homeland, effectively reflects Deutsche Welle's Indophobic stance, whereby an "insider" is parroting German prejudices.
