Peter your inspection and diagnosis of your new client’s bad radiator requires no apology on your part. You have done him a HUGE service by identifying this problem. If he’s smart he will have you fix it ASAP! Yes, he is lucky he has you as his mechanic. Thank you!👍🏼

Just replaced my radiator from 2002. Do note it's a different radiator for a 5sp vs auto transmission. Toyota no longer makes the radiator for manuals so I bought a Denso for the automatic. The radiator is a bit longer for the transmission cooling reservoir so you do need the longer lower radiator hose.

Look up the Radiator Hose for both the 5spd and the Automatic. If they are the same part that will answer your question. I would think they are the same.

Peter, looking forward to more videos for this vehicle as you do detail inspection. Mu 2001 Taco is very similar, so the things you find and show, are valuble to me. Hope you had a nice Dunkel or Marzen at your Oktoberfest. Prost ! my friend

Have a 2003 tacoma with same problem coolant reservoir kept on going empty radiator leak was culprit. Customer needs to replace the radiator before he ruins that legendary engine radiator is cheap compared to another engine. Good catch Mr Toyota Maintence!!

A long time ago when I was a kid and had no money I used jb weld epoxy for a crack on the plastic. It worked. Made a rectangle around the area. Scuffed it up and cleaned out the grossness and then put it on with a popsicle stick. Stayed good until it was sold

JB Weld is the best. I have used it for so many things. I put in a TRD short throw shifter in my 2004 Matrix XRS. The plastic bracket seemed a bit flimsy in one area and I thought it would break. I wrapped the area with un waxed dental floss and a little JB Weld it stiffened right up. Had a hole in a gas tank where water inside the tank rusted through. I poked a bunch of JB Weld up into the hole and screwed in a sheet metal screw to plug it. It worked. Speed up the cure time with heat. Let the JB Weld cure for an hour or so. Stick the part in an oven preheated to 180 degrees. The JB Weld will soften then harden. After an hour it should be fully cured. It will look glassy.

Peter, Please check that the radiator cap releases pressure as specified. I suspect the relief valve system within the cap has failed. You have the tester. I didn't have the radiator cap adaptor to test my IS300 cap. The radiator had a similar crack near the top hose connection where the water is the hottest. The cap I see in your video looks original, I mean factory original. The caps I get from the dealer are not yellow.

I always go by the antifreeze smell and watch for the bees that are attracted to the sweet smell of the coolant . Do you use distilled water for that mix? Or are you just trying to save his engine from overheating, the coolant was below the cracks and had long been rinsed away

Working underneath cars it isn't uncommon to get splashed with antifreeze in the mouth. I can tell you firsthand it is sweet.

My 94 3L Toyota truck had the same issue at about 12 years. Seems to always be the upper tank where the coolant is the hottest.

Just did my wifes 94 3L replaced radiator had 210k on it orginal brass radiator. .. the thermo state housing on block only took a paper gasket now thats leaking.. should of used rtv sealant on it.. 🙄
@Esteban_Herrera
9 ай бұрын
@@flir67man84 It shouldn't need sealant. The pressure will blow out the sealant. The aluminum housing might be warped. This is going to sound a bit like redneck engineering. Take the housing and rub it on a paver brick or even the sidewalk till the surface is even. Hey, I was desperate. LoL. If you decide to use sealant, only use it on the housing. If the mounting holes go into a water jacket, I would coat the mounting bolts in RTV sealant. This is to avoid the bolts ever from rusting and getting stuck in the block.

I have an '03 4Runner with 2UZ engine. Getting a white, chalky deposit on a couple of coolant hoses, one goes to TB, it's completely white now, some on the overflow hose right at radiator connection. Don't seem to be losing coolant, I check it weekly and no visible signs of coolant leak. Have you ever seen this happen to hoses before?
@efil4kizum
4 ай бұрын
yes, that happened to my tacoma with the 5VZFE... it then started weeping pink coolant on both hoses, the upper was first and was a bad drip drip... then 2 years later the bottom hose was weeping pink with white crusty around the connection to the water pump inlet
