What a great video and fun little trucks. I have never seen anyone have that much fun at Tahuya! Challenging obstacles everywhere. I have a Unimog 404 but haven't wheeled it in years as my Pathfinder is way more fun. A 404 is so hard to get stuck on a trail that you're just driving around and pulling people out. It gets boring in a hurry when few things challenge you. It's all about the driving challenge and pushing the limits of what your equipment can do, not where you go or what you drive. :)

This is more a carriage than a cart. It was build by Steyr-Works in Austria (the land southeast of Germany) to replace the pack-horses what where called "Haflinger". This vehicle should carry goods for the soldiers in alpine region in the forests. The engine was based on the Puch 500 what was the austrian version of the fiat baby with austrian engine. A 2-cylinder-boxer, aircooled. The transmission had differential boxes on each axle and one between, all these differentials could be locked.

Haflingers can go 45mph on flat road without issue. They are NOT highway vehicles, except for short distances. No heater, but people often build doors and windows for them and install heaters. The Polycab Haflinger (hardtop) would work nicely with a hearter, and some came with them. You can find them for sale occasionally in the US and Canada, but they are super rare, and going up in value. Expect to pay $6-15k US for one.

@MrJohn1966elliott These are both 1960's Swiss army Haflingers, built in Austria. Motor is a 643cc 2 cylinder air cooled, just like a VW. 5 speed with one being a krawler gear. Thanks!

There is a vid called "Sonderausstellung Steyr Puch Haflinger" (special exhibition of...) after "watch?" add "v=bBTfYha61hE". At 1:05 there is shown such an engine, note the cylinders are opend to see the bulbs. At 1:14 look to see the right side. Right of the view there ist the clutch. On the top a cut through the air filter. At 1:26 the whole enginge, it is coverded by blades.On top the electric dynamo which fan is cooling itself and blowing the fresh air under those blades to cool the engine.

Dammit Ryan! I just did a bunch of research on the haflinger. As if I didn't love them enough already I had no idea they used boxer engines!! Do you happen to know of any sources to find them for sale? I'd really like to get a street legal setup like what you have.

The beetle engine is a 4 cylinder aircooled engine here you have a 2 cylinder aircooled engine. 180° V or also boxer. The reason is that it needs less space. And the beetle engine also has been used at a military car, the german VW (Volkswagen) Jagdwagen from Hitler untill neerby now.

This carriages could be damaged by nearly nothing with one exception: riding to fast on a common road! This always caused big repair to the engine! 80km/h was a forbidden speed! Between kasernas in the flat regions of Austria (southeast of Germany) had been demaged much more haflingers then offroad in the alps! Note: the driver-education at austrian army was good this damages where without accidents!

The Haflingers in the Austrian Army had a simple centrifugal device with weights and springs that regulated the max revs and therefore the max. speed to about 63 km/h . If you wanted to go faster you had to exchange the standard springs with a bit stronger ones.
@noelvpressvideos

@@denisehauser3060 Rekrutes used to hang off this centrifugal divice so could go faster at messenger trips between casernas. And then the engine had to be recovered in the garage!
