I would say more than his passing was dangerous, the worst accident I ever had on the road was some joker running up on me fast looking for his opportunity to pass, he managed to rear end me on a 4 lane highway. It isn't a track. It is a public road. Having been to the TOD many times with sport bikes and touring bikes. I do try to be courteous, and pull off as soon as possible. Mostly because I don't want them behind me, if I have to slow down coming out of one of the corners they will not be able to stop before they hit me. Working in EMS personnel, across multiple states, the story is always the same, going around a corner at a high rate of speed, didn't see the car/motorcycle/deer/pig/ spill on the road. If you want track conditions, maybe instead of a camera, you should invest in a track day or a membership. Never try to outrun your line of sight, your equipment or your experience level.

Have not watched anything on the Dragon in a long time. Amazing skill! My first trip to the area in 1995 on my new R11GS and I was moving over to make room for anyone coming up behind me on all those roads much less 129 and Deal's Gap. Advice I gave just yesterday to a few Harley peeps I met going to the Dragon. " Not a site seeing road, totally concentration at all times. Don't hold the faster guys up or try to stay with them. Ride your ride and come back alive " . My 12th trip up there in '02, I was still slower than 30% of peeps going my way. LOL.

Nothing like riding 200 miles to get to the Gap, only to be stuck behind someone who rather scrape his floor boards & pipes, and cross back & forth on a double yellow line, than give way to a rider who is going to end up passing you anyway. 13 pull outs? please, a little common courtesy

mangudiaforce , it's not sped up, Killboy's comments are for liability (and sarcasm) reasons. A fast run on four wheels from the bridge to the state line fence is 14-15:30 minutes. A fast run on two wheels is 12 or less -this guy did what he did with a LOT of slow speed impairments and STILL killed it. This guy was, as Killboy implied, very fast and very good.
@pajonate
9 жыл бұрын
+Destiny Price Re look the video, and then at some points you can see that the speed on his speedometer is the same with the speed posted on the right lower corner of the video. Maybe Killboy can play with that image, but it will take a lot of post editing, to change the speed values on the actual bike's speedometer. Definitely not fast forwarded, this guy was getting with high speeds in those corners.

This guy's a maniac, but skilled. Stayed on his own side of the road. You know, though, people are under no obligation, legally or morally, to pull out of the way so that someone can tear through at way over the speed limits. It's nice when they do, of course, but not required.

@ryancraig2795

killboydotcom Is that "can't maintain the speed limit AND more than 4 vehicles are held up"? Because I'm pretty sure all those cars and bikes were managing the speed limit, and likely then some. So like I said, it's a courtesy, a favor, for them to pull off and let you go at your chosen pace, but not legally required. If you want to go as fast as you like with no traffic to get in your way, you'll have to go to a track. Don't get me wrong, I understand the frustration when you're stuck behind cars or bikes going the speed limit on a twisty road where you want to go much faster and there's no good places to pass. Kudos to the rider in this video for only passing in places where it's reasonably safe.

For safety reasons, it should be a law that you let faster riders (and drivers) pass, especially on the interstates, and on roads like this with pull-offs. Every time that someone is forced to go around someone blocking a lane is an opportunity for someone to screw up, unnecessarily. If someone doing 75 in a 55 is blocking someone doing 85, the cops should give both speeding tickets, and give the slower driver an additional ticket for obstructing traffic flow. The Germans have the right idea in reserving the inner lane for passing only. It avoids accidents and road rage incidents, as well.

This guy is either a local or has a lot of experience on track. There were a few times behind the first cruiser that the rider was picking on inside exit lines like he was going to pass after the apex. Didn't happen, obviously but he was setting it up. Anyway, good advertising for you Killboy.

I was actually very surprised to see that cars were quicker to pull over and let the guy pass, than bikers. I would think, on a road like this, if someone catches up to you, for your safety, as well as theirs, and oncoming drivers, pull off as soon as you can, to let them pass.

Former Cruiser (Honda VTX1300C) rider, not an Adventure Bike rider (Yamaha Super Tenere XT1200Z) Gong to ride the Dragon for the first time with my oldest son on his Triumph Speedmaster. Trying to learn all I can about the different type of bike I have. I have been riding all my life and my Dad rides. But I feel I'm always learning. I like the way this guy rides and want to be this good! I know I can only do so much on my Adventure bike but.....I like the way he doesn't over hug the turns and did an excellent job of giving himself plenty of escape when those rude fools wouldn't get out of the way! (kok bloks, they were!) Having only ridden cruisers in the past; You (think) you're handling curves better than you think you are! It just feels that way! I know better when I see other style of bikes pass me like nothing! Curves that made me pucker at 50mph on my cruisers; feel like nothing going 80mph on my Adventure bike! So much I need to learn and practice! Just got to get past some instincts! Don't know why those cruiser riders are riding so weighted down with stuff!

I had a wipe out between mile marker 6 and 7 due to some jackwagon standing the middle of the road coming around a blind curve, waving folks down. There was a wreck about 300 yds down road, and this guy was trying to help. I swerved to miss him, hit a gravel patch, and wa la, the bike comes right out from under me! It was an incredible ride up to that point. Dislocated and broke my ankle is half. 13 screws and 2 plates - yippee! Dr said if it weren't for the skin, my foot would have fallen off -- pretty gross looking. That said, once I heal up, I'm back to it. Gotta finish! Be Safe!

Great idea overlaying the speedo and the map it really shows how tight some of these corners are, do these cameras record angle of lean and g by any chance? I am curious at 4.14 how did you know Stig waved with his left hand? I was impressed until he came up behind those two who didn't pull over and let him past, pity he was climbing all over the back off them, he gained nothing as a consequence and possibly endangered both himself and the other riders. Yes obstructive drivers can be annoying and I am not saying they rode politely but if he had unsettled them and they crashed as a result.....plus so close and he wouldn't have had much reaction time. One other consideration is that they may have been wary of driving into the pull offs with him up their ass, there isn't much braking room in them and they may have been concerned that if they braked beforehand on the open road he would have hit them. I drive one road where such things are a consideration and you have to start braking before entering the pull off for turns.
@PowerheadProductions
4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. The camera can record lean/tilt at low speed, like a 4x4 Jeep crawling off-road, but with speed you get inertia messing with the sensor, and it doesn't really register lean very well. They do record G loads as well, but again, with leaning the lateral G load gets diminished since the camera is tilting, so the reading is affected. Longitudinal G reading (braking/acceleration) stays unaffected as long as they are not lifting either tire off the ground though. I ride with this person often, and waving for those who pull over is religion. Valid points that we're not in disagreement on. Many of these people are very stubborn though, openly stating that they will not pull over for anyone even though that is the law in TN. Some of these paved pull-offs are literally large enough for 2 full-size tractor trailers to park, but they're still not big enough for some egos to fit.

@@PowerheadProductions Thanks for the reply. I did wonder why you'd lent a camera to a stranger. Re "Many of these people are very stubborn though, openly stating that they will not pull over for anyone........" That's not polite of them and dangerous. Just as a matter of interest can you see much scenery from this road? I'd love to ride it and appreciate that there isn't much time to focus elsewhere other than on the road but it would be nice to pull over at times for a "view". Be interesting to see what you think of kzitem.info/news/bejne/kmqq15uam3SqfYY or kzitem.info/news/bejne/16ehyIRukp-ngKA however it is most definitely not a road for speed. Neither video is mine and both have signifcant bits of the road missing but a stunning ride.

@@williamlitlle1308 Well at the time I was renting cameras out for people to use to record their ride, so videos like this were not uncommon. Yeah it can be frustrating out there at times, the state came in and paved 100+ pull offs along the 11 miles stretch, and some people just poke right past all of them either oblivious or out of spite and ego. There is not much scenery on the Dragon to be honest, a few openings in the trees, and a cool overlook over a lake at the north end, but there are many other roads close by that do have awesome views of mountains. Nothing as green/grassy as in those videos you posted though, more trees and forest type stuff. Those videos you posted are pretty though! Narrow roads for sure, and they kind of remind me of Isle of Mann videos for some reason, I guess the green countryside.

Those who won't pull over and those who brake every time they see a squirrel on the side of the road. Those who wander all over the road and those who hog two lanes. Those who are so focussed on the road ahead that they don't know what or who is around them. Those who leave their signal on all the time and those who never signal. Those who go through stop lights and those who put their brakes on going through a green light. Those who talk to the passenger and don't pay attention, and those who are texting or talking on the phone or fixing the radio. and on and on and on

Every one enjoys motorcycling for different reasons. Maybe it's my age but I could never attack a road that aggressively. With that said we all should give way to anyone trying that, let the cops sort it out. Slow down and enjoy the view or go to a race track.

Try recording another ride with a handlebar or tank mounted camera, man. That mounting doesn't do justice to that awesome ride. You've got some serious skills, though. Just put the mirros back on, aye? Cheers!

Great road. We have one like this in OZ called the Beachmont Range in S.E. Queensland.

buddy, you need to respect the double yellow line. I've almosted killed people in my car comming around a corner at speed and someone was passing like you were

The spots he passed in you have clear line of sight on incoming traffic. There aren't many spots to pass in the gap but the two shown here were safe.

gimme a break, just google "agios ioannis rossos", if you can see past the turn, who gives a f** about the lines, even passing on the corner is fine (not for the police though :P )

I don't ride the road on the weekends between 10 and 6 anyway. The last two times I went out on a Saturday I ended up climbing down a cliff to see if a dude was dead, and narrowly avoiding behind hit head-on by someone blowing the line around a blind corner. Not fun. Empty road = fun.

This would be the perfect tail of the dragon video if his camera wasn't loose on his helmet...

It's shoulder mounted. There are literally thousands of helmet videos on the Dragon where the rider is not being held up.

This dude can ride. The HD guys think that if their bike costs 3 time over - they can outrun him too, or at lest hold him back. Just selfish and inconsiderate. As for passing - try riding in Alps. Passing zones are even in blind corners (broken lines). Use your own judgement. And everyone drives respectively.

Bucket list for my husband on his 2009 Hayabusa. Would be nice to see that part of the country while seated in a comfortable car, but Ron wants me to ride with him.
