We visited Taiwan in 2017. We did Taipei on our own with metro pass and hired a professional tour guide to take us to the west coast and Alishan. We toured as a family so a private guide was a more cost effective way. We will go back to tour around the whole island in 2025 in conjunction with the Osaka World Expo. We loved those night markets. We visited at least half a dozen. We are Chinese and we still stand out and people came up to offer help ( I guess they heard us discussing directions in English.)

Wow. I had no idea Taiwan offered so much for both city life and mountains. I added it to our travel bucket list! For those who may be gluten free, when we were in Southeast Asia we were able to find food options. Sometimes it took some digging online to find restaurants that offered gluten free, but it is possible. -M

If you're nature lovers, make sure to include east coast Taiwan, say Hualien, in your next visit. The east cast has some of the most beautiful, exciting and highly accessible trails in Taiwan. There're plenty of water activities as well, SUP, canoeing on the Pacific, etc., and dolphin-watching, might even spot a whale or two! Enjoy your south-east Asia trip :)

I'm glad KZitem's algorithm promoted your video on why you quit Airbnb yesterday and I found that video very useful; then I saw your how-to pack video, which is another useful video. And I just noticed you actually stopped by my hometown Taipei for 48 hours! You went to all the places that I would go to every time I go back home! I left home to come to the U.S. almost 30 years ago and those are to me the best places to visit! I would also go to the Shilin night market as that's near my hometown and I grew up going to that night market! So good to see that you enjoyed the food there. Taiwan is known for nice, friendly, and helpful people and delicious foods anywhere you go. The mountains and beaches there are also beautiful; I am sure you would enjoy them more when you return!

We were in Southeast Asia a couple of months. One of our favorite was Taiwan. We would love to return for a longer stay there. We love everywhere we traveled, but we especially love Raja Ampat in Indonesia and we had a great time in Cambodia and also Laos. Those two surprised us. If you guys come back for mountain hikes, maybe you can get suggestions from Xiaofei or Asiahikelopedia. These are expats that vlog their hiking journeys in Taiwan. There are a lot of hikers on this island and recently outdoor camping is becoming a thing but beware of mosquitoes.

Thanks and sounds amazing. We would love to, but will be elsewhere in the world. We are planning to return in 2024. When you see our next video from Vietnam, we barely made 200 m on the bike. 🤣 John and Bev retirementtravelers.com

@@RetirementTravelers at least you gave it a crack. Shaz is planning it but I'm not sure why. She hates riding her bike. I might take training wheels with us. 🤣🤣

It’s called “da an” park. The an is pronounced more like ang. It’s really easy to pronounce daan as one syllable bc they put the two syllables together like that. And night market is pronounced “shi lin” and pause more in between the syllables. I’m real glad you guys liked Taiwan. You guys did hit the right destination given the 2 day period. Interested in how you guys planned it. What did you use to plan?

Thanks so much. We do appreciate the help with pronunciations. We just used the internet to plan things to do for a couple of days. Our next trip we are planning 2 weeks to do a circle around the island. The kind people of Taiwan have been giving us many great suggestions. John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/

@@RetirementTravelers yes, you’ll love the shoreline drive along the east coast. The ocean is unbelievable blue. We loved it when we did it. They say it’s better to go up from the south along the east cost because you’ll be driving in the right side to get a better view of the coast line. If you drive down from the north, you’ll have to look to your left.

Enjoyed your videos very much. I am moved by you guys, and thinking about retirement. Thanks for sharing your excitements. Quick question: do you have base (or home) in USA, so we can refill or reset?
