Nice to see another comparison video. I like those videos the most because somethimes you think about buying a new scope but you don’t know which one is better because there are no direct comparison videos with them. KZitem is full of videos comparing an iPhone to a Samsung, a BMW to a Mercedes and so one… but there are almost no videos with telescope comparisons. So it’s really difficult to buy a new scope since there are practically no comparison videos on KZitem and you don’t really know which one is better / has a better optical performance.

@@Mylittleponyheart thanks I appreciate it. Actually my channel has a lot of comparisons sometimes side-by-side. I also do overviews of telescopes. A lot of channels are imaging, which is fine if you like that . and then there are others that just get reviews which again is fine But you’re correct on my channel. I actually compare a lot if you look I test hundreds of telescopes. But it does become very expensive because normally I try to find models on the market I do my testing and then I just resell them back on the used market so to buy so many different telescopes does become expensive and I’m thinking a lot of people don’t wanna do that Lately like the Ruby turret and the svbony were the only two models that they were actually sent to me for testing because of how many subscribers I have jumped up to But before like four months ago, nobody would give me a telescope to test for free because I was just too small Thanks for watching the video And if you haven’t watched my comparisons, you might have to go a little bit back, but there are dozens of those as well

@@JoeJaguar I saw almost all of your videos, you are one of very few youtubers who constantly tests telescopes against itch other. And I am really happy that I discovered you channel. For example, if I want to buy a 5 inch refractor, there are 10-20 different models with difference specifications, so it’s really difficult to choose one especially because there are practically no direct comparison videos on KZitem or other video-platforms. So I really appreciate the content of your channel and your work :). It’s hard to understand why telescope enthusiasts very rarely test them against itch other, like you do.

Hello Joe, an off topic question. I saw you own the Svbony sv225 AZ mount, I was thinking to buy one for my 8.5 kg (18.7 pounds) refractor. Can the sv225 mount handle 8.5 kg or is it too much ? It's specifications show it can handle a maximum weight of 10 kg (22 pounds), but I don't know if that is realistic of not.
@JoeJaguar

@@ACAJUJU I actually did two videos on it. One was just an overview and then was a usage. It does say it’s 10 kg which is about 20 pounds but I found with my Takahashi TSA 102 at about 15 or 16 pounds. It can hold it, but it’s a bit shaky and has vibration so I would say no more than 15 pounds but probably 10 to 12 pounds is more ideal so I don’t think you’re gonna have a good time like that. I think he needs slightly something bigger. And more steady. I am coming out in the next couple weeks I think with a video to turn your equatorial mount into an az I’m thinking something like an EQ five might be better but I’m not sure if you like equatorial mountains or CG4

@@ACAJUJU I think that might help a little. I also have a very high-quality steel tripod. Slik professional series.11 When I put my Takahashi on that video, however there’s still some vibrations that’s coming from the mount itself Again, I think your best bet is it can be used but if you want rock solid, I don’t think it’s gonna be OK for 18 pounds I use mine for quick grab and go and for solar observing and travel where I need something kind of lightweight, but not super rock solid Here’s maybe one more thing now if you’re looking to do planetary viewing where you need steady rock images then no I don’t think it’s gonna work for that but if you’re looking more at deep sky, objects like clusters, nebula, and galaxies where you’re at lower to medium powers and a little fuzzy gray thing in the IP is not true critical, but I don’t want you to be unhappy with me if you get it and not be good enough so I just wanna be clear Lower power to medium powers can work with something not too expensive and not too heavy but if you’re looking for something that’s gonna hold it steady and high planetary views then I think he needs something a bit better

Like! Hello Joe, how does in your opinion the Svbony 102ED compare in optical quality to the more expensive Skywatcher 100/900 ED ?
@JoeJaguar
3 ай бұрын
@@Easybreazygaming so I have owned the sky watcher as well ed It does have a better lens in it and it’s also longer that one is at F9 However, I did do a video against that one against Takahashi TSA 1024 years ago or maybe it’s about 4 1/2 years ago if you go back to my beginning ones and there was a huge difference on Saturn The downfalls are very pricey for size so in Canadian money it’s about 1600 before tax . remember it doesn’t have a front sliding cap and I think the focus is not the greatest. I’ve had an issue a couple of them. It’s not horrible but it’s not great either. So you have to upgrade the focus you’re looking at at least closer to $300 for something decent not a high-end version focuser The svbony 102 is a little shorter at F7. It’s using the slightly less quality lens. It is much cheaper at C$799 but it’s already coming what I think is a decent focus and a sliding caps. I think even the rings are slightly better than the sky watcher version. I think the watcher slightly better glass and longer will put up a little bit better image and less colour . But it cost like three times you take into consideration to focus. I think if I was a new person or even an intermediate person or maybe even advanced person that just needed something decent good on a budget with SV Bony However, I do think the optics in the sky watcher is actually pretty decent. It’s just too bad that the price is so high and they don’t give you better accessories with it.

Interesting video. I guess nobody expected the 500 $ Svbony 102ED to be sharper than the much more expensive Takahashi. Maybe the 1399 $ - 122 mm Svbony triplet would have a similar performance to the 100 mm Takahashi.

@@3dfxvoodoocards6 very true however, I just thought I mention it. The only other thing is I don’t really like to do comparisons on the moon because the moon is a very high contrast object and almost anything does well on the moon anyway I would’ve preferred maybe Saturn or Jupiter look how sharp the rings are the edge of the planet. Can you see maybe Jupiters, red banding better or sharper or more but since it wasn’t around, I figure I have to do what I can For anyone that just wants a grab and go quick decent refractor or maybe for star parties or outreach the svbony can be fine for those purposes Thanks for watching

Joe I have a question for you. There is something I don’t understand about refractors and DSO. If I use for visual observations for example a 102/500 mm F5 achromat and a 102/700 F7 triplet FPL53 APO, I understand that with the APO the Moon and planets will look 10x better and sharper but how about DSO ? Will the galaxies look better in a high-quality APO than in a same-aperture short F5 achromat ? (For visual observations, not astrophotography).
@JoeJaguar
3 ай бұрын
@@BurningFlame1999 OK and your example you’re correct. It looks much better on the moon and planets but on deep sky objects now there would be no benefits to buying an ED or an APO. However, if you do imaging or Astro photography a regular acro would have purple fringing around stars because the camera can pick up that fringing much better than our eyes can So if you use an acro just for visual, deep sky is fine Imaging the acro not recommended . And again just to be clear and ED or APO would be better for the moon and planets and double stars

You should get the Tak 1 1/4” prism diagonal It is an excellent one. Also the Tak 1 1/4” barlow. Then maybe pick a Tak eyepiece in a FL you use most often. I have found less light scatter on the moon with 1 1/4” diagonals then a 2 inch diagonal when viewing the Moon. The Tak 1 1/4” prism is a favorite of mine when doing lunar and double stars. Yes it limits you to 1 1/4” eyepieces. In my 6” F/15 is has proven to be excellent. I have a set of Brandon eyepieces Eyepieces 32mm 24mm 16mm 12mm 8mm 6mm and the rare 4mm plus the Dakin 1 1/4” barlow The Tak 1 1/4” diagonal is not very $$$ Happy viewing

@@BurningFlame1999 yes I clearly remember that one that was at William optics 110 mm and focal ratio 5.95 That was one of your older designs that are no longer available, but I can clearly remember that the chromatic aberration was very big or pronounced in that telescope I have absolutely no doubt that the SVbony has less chromatic, aberration, and better corrected I believe it’s due to svbony being F7 versus F5 .95 but also the SV Boney uses a newer generation lathium mating lens which is better than the William optics used back then However, I do know that the William optics wasn’t made for planetary images. It was made for deep sky imaging where chromatic aberration would not be a factor. Thanks for watching

@@nguoisat134 yes I understand like binoculars you have to twist them towards the size of your eyes to get one image I’ve done it dozens of times and I can never see one image it’s always double image Remember the differences in binoculars you have two barrels instead of a single barrel so you have to look to infinity. I guess I’m not sure if I’m saying it right. But I’ve tried a very high quality version. I can’t remember the name of it and then I tried like a sky watcher version and it didn’t work as well. Same thing I can’t get my eyes to see a single image. Again, I understand that you have to fold each part until you see one circle, but it didn’t work with my eyes when I’ve read more about it. There is a certain amount of people it doesn’t work with. I might be one of those people and it can’t be that two units are faulty. The first high-quality one was used so I thought maybe it was misaligned but then I got a brand new one from sky watcher and I had the same exact issue that could see and I still see images, but the image would go in and out depending how I focussed my eyes, it would become focussed for a second and then unfocused the rest of the time. I don’t know what’s going on, but I didn’t like it. So I don’t think I’m willing to take I’m buying a third model However, I do have a friend who actually subscribe to the channel and to the Patreon members who has an expensive 3-D binocular viewer and he’s going to lend it to me and I’m gonna see if this third unit I have the same problem if I do then it just doesn’t work with my eyes and if it does work then maybe something was wrong with both of those units
