@@DreamlessSleepwalker His sixth symphony was completed two years ago, if I recall correctly. I'm sure he's written something more recently, but news (and recordings!) of his works take a long time to spread

@@towardthesea_ I heard it but didn't realise it was so recent, he is surely still keeping it up. I hope he will write more symphonic work, they are always a pleasure to listen to.

I have heard the oboe, soprano saxophone and chromatic harmonica taking the melody role. The Cello , here, is really beautiful

I have to agree - I think the cello version might actually be my favorite, it just seems so soulful and human. The oboe version has a sort of calm and mysterious serenity, but here the sound is deeply felt and nearly heart-wrenching.

Merveilleuse musique.

Not just the best living composer, the best ever, though some might concider that as blasphemy. My family does not agree with me, but they all like this piece. I am trying to get my son to play it on his ullieann pipes…...

It is ridiculous to state "the best ever modern composer", he is one of the most extraordinary. Talent to create is well spread through human. You mean may be he is your fever composer ? He is one my fevered.

I prefer this version to the one with the oboe as the soloist.
