Really nice recital. The mompou followed by the Liszt was such a treat. Loved the warm atmosphere and rare pieces

The Kapustin was great. Such a difficult piece, with so many notes. I loved it! Regarding the remark by Richter, I remember a remark by Arrau that when he had a big program at a major hall, he would ask his agent to book that program at smaller community venues so when he got that major venue he had performed that program many times. Happy New Year ! All the Best for 2024

I get it about apologies for a few missed notes but it isn't really necessary Cole. All the greatest miss notes. Far more often than not, the listener doesn't even hear them! It's the artistry and conveying the beauties of the music that matter most. I heard Jorge Bolet say to paraphrase..."I heard Schnabel fill the room with misses and it didn't matter because we were all under the spell of the extraordinary performance". Horowitz missed notes all the time and he still got standing ovations. I get it though. Part of the reason you're so good is your striving for attainment of perfection. After all, we are all human. Couple that with taking big chances live and playing on the edge, makes for thrilling performances. That's why Jorge Bolet used to say to his students that "we have chosen the world's most insane profession". Beautiful playing Cole! Best. BTW, I wasn't familiar with any of those pieces except the Gershwin. There is a lot to like there. I'll have to stay open to them. Thanks.

The best bit of 2023! What a magnificent way to see out the old year with this fabulous concert . . . and excited to see what you will be sharing with us in 2024. Here's wishing you much success and happiness and personal fulfilment in the months ahead. It's hard to pick a 'favourite' from your programme as I thought all the pieces were played exquisitely and showed your virtuosic abilities and sheer artistry to perfection. The Kapustin Sonata was certainly a triumph . . . but it is probably the Mompou I will keep returning to time and again as that reaches so deep into my heart. B R A V O, Cole!

I just discovered your channel a few weeks ago from a Reddit thread about interesting piano channels and this doesn't disappoint, great content! Until this video I didn't realize you were almost local. Do you have a listing of concerts in Bellingham, or even better for me, the Seattle area? :D I'd love to attend.

Ah well I’m actually centered in CA at the moment, I usually only make it back for the holidays. Haven’t played in Seattle in a while but I am looking to branch out with some new venues soon. Thanks for subscribing!

I have terrible trouble with random wrong notes!! I’m just an amateur, but I’ve been working a lot on harder repertoire lately. So I don’t mind wrong notes when I’m technically deficient, but the random easy wrong notes really irritate me!!! I think for me it’s to do with focus and presence and that balance with being on auto pilot (you can’t think about every note all the time). Usually extraneous thoughts leak in and wrong notes come next. I’ve improved this somewhat, and as my technical abilities have improved a little that has helped to. I’m looking forwards to listening to this take 2 of your program

Know that you are not alone! I am continually blighted by 'extraneous thoughts' during a performance (more so when I hit the record button!) that result in random wrong easy notes and much irritation. I have put it down to advancing years and the inability to concentrate and remain fully focused for more than a few seconds. (Oh, and a lack of self discipline and inherent laziness as well . . . !) If only we could all play like Cole . . . or just 1% as good!

Congratulations! This seemed like a warmer performance space. The Caroline Hume Auditorium can be very cold and intimidating.

Yes, that was a little bit how it struck me as well. Next time I will try their smaller hall-it feels a good bit more inviting!

Hello!! Lovely recital. I recently bought your fingerings for sonatine but unfortunately I cannot get the webpage to load. I’ve been a big fan of yours for quite some time. I was going to email you with this issue as well but the link for the site is also stuck on a loading screen! Hoping we can find a way to resolve this, I’m playing sonatine in a recital and know my 10 dollars went towards something great!!

Believe it or not the audio is coming from a Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 camera-next time I am going to use an improved setup with mics so I should get even better sound!

I tried to listen to the Gershwin but we really have different rhythm sensibilities... just like in the intro for all the videos it doesn't feel right to me - well, anyway, I am the bad musician here...
