I totally agree with u! I didn't feel ready for uni so I took a year off to really work on myself and I now feel so much more comfortable starting uni a year older

do you have to travel on a gap year or did you feel pressure to travel. I'm taking a gap year but I may not end up travelling due to funds(as much as I would love to) I'm planning to work for the year in order to fund some travelling!

This is an interesting discussion. I took a gap year this year and I'm moving to uni on Saturday. I agree about the type of subject being a factor in whether you should take one (Zoe had the same reasoning as you for not taking one), but I also think taking one is good for the mind anyway, especially after having taken exams for 3/4/5/etc. years straight. Also, it's just nice to be able to put off applying to uni until the next year while you deal with A Levels and decide what you really want to do (which is what I did lol). I'm glad you made this video, it's a topic that I have discussed with loads of people in the past, so it was good to hear your views!

This is so cute... I am also worried about going back to education after a gap year but I am hoping because I am going to work, maybe that the structure that is provided by working, it won't feel as alien when I go to uni?

I personally never thought of taking a gap year - I just want to be done with schooling tbh, and it's not for me to relax for one year and then commit to 5+ more years of studying. I'm applying to universities at the moment, and I am SO excited to go there in a year's time :)

I haven't really been told about gap years by my college tutor, all I know is I really want to travel and study philosophy in university. I'm in my final year of college and I have no idea how to educate myself in the ways university works and I've been so aware that philosophy may not be beneficial for a well paying career. Did you find that you weren't told much by your colleges relating to university or Is it just me??

Would not recommend a gap year if you're doing a mathematical science as universities are less likely to accept you because it's generally seen as gap years will completely hinder your progress in your subject.

if the only thing holding you back is not getting accepted into a uni then that seems such a wasted opportunity! The whole point of first year is for everyone to get to a similar level in the subject so there's definitely time to catch up if your gap year does ~hinder your progress~. And as for not getting a place at uni - there's no strict rulebook for getting in, you just need to show ability and passion. Just because a gap year isn't the norm for the sciences it doesn't mean you won't get a place

When travelling to volunteer with elephants, which programme did you get that opportunity through? I've been looking at doing something similar
