That was a Redeye Bass! Very rare catch. The redeye bass, redeye, or Coosa bass (Micropterus coosae) is a species of freshwater fish in the sunfish family (Centrarchidae) native to the Coosa River system of Georgia, Alabama. The waters it is normally found in are cool streams and rivers in the foothills of mountains.

Great to see you switch it up. I don’t like holding a baitcaster in my left hand so I bought a left hand retrieve reel. Makes it so much easier. Never understood why someone would want to switch their hand placement after every cast

I did the same...fished with it about a year, then went back to spinning. Never went back to baitcasters.

Looks like upper Fish River…? You should try going up into Magnolia River too…all the way up into “Cold Hole.” I used to go fishing out in the bay and gulf all day long…and then come back in and go up into “Cold Hole” just to jump into the freezing water. It was so refreshing after getting hot fishing all day long. I’ve caught lots of flounder and specs on the oyster beds in Weeks Bay too.

Pretty decent casting for someone that doesn’t bass fish a lot. I love watching your videos. Bass fishing is my strong suit. Other good baits to throw or flip around that stuff would be square bill crank baits or Texas rigged brushhogs/senkos.

You know they do make left handed baitcasters. I use one. When I intially started to fish in the Pacific North West my fishing buddies called my spinning reel a "coffee grinder", so out of curiousity (I abandoned my pride and stubborness at that point), I decided to try a baitcaster for steelhead fishing. But, because I was used to using spinning gear, I bought a left handed Quantum 1300 series reel (it was 1988) and built a ten foot rod for it and I loved it. I still own that reel, but the rod is long gone. I go thru a lot of fishing poles over the years.

Hey, I would have been happy with that! Went out for some sheeps last week and got skunked. Brought me back to the days when I lived in SC fishing the Santee Cooper lakes, mainly lake Moultrie. Live in Pensacola now. You're right though, a 2 1/2 pounder would be on the smaller side for those lakes. Also reminds me of chasing the big blue cats this time of year on Lake Moultrie. They follow the schools of shad. My biggest came in at 52 pounds and got me an article in the Sunday paper. That was back in the 90's. lol

BTW, that blue cat I caught was a monster but just looked it up and it wasn't even half as big as the record on Lake Moultrie 113.8 pounds caught in 2017. I believe it is also the current state record there.

Try slowing the chatter bait down some. Get a lighter weight one and slow roll or just fast enough to make the blades vibrate. You can do it with a heavier one real slow in colder weather and get a little deeper and whack em too. Won some money fishing the ole chatter pattern

While launching your boat you may have been finding the lower end of the ramp. Many of the ramps in this area were actually poured on land and then pushed into position in the water. They typically included a curb across the lower edge to stop you from dropping the wheels off the end. If that is what you were experiencing you are fortunate you did not go over it.
