Taking a kid out in the field is one of the most important things us waterfowlers can do. Being able to introduce these kids to the world or waterfowl hunting in a controlled and responsible manner is crucial to starting the next generation of waterfowl hunters. I had the opportunity to join with the Buffalo Basin Delta Waterfowl Chapter for their first ever youth hunt. Scouting reports were good as this cattle pasture had been loaded up all week. With challenging conditions due to the wind it was difficult to get these birds to decoy, we were able to get each of the 6 kids a crack at their first goose though. Easton was also able to scratch out his limit on his first ever waterfowl hunt. I'm extremely grateful to be able to documents these hunts especially when they're kids involved.
At the end of the hunt the kids were all entered into a drawing to win a 20 gauge shotgun that was given back to the chapter by Mr. Boone. Connor ended up winning this drawing and his reaction was priceless! Huge thanks also to Lee White as he made duck calls for each of the kids and Iowa Hunting Products for providing each kid with a 6 in 1 whistle.
These things go a long ways in the eyes of these kids. This is a hunt they will truly never forget!
