Not gonna lie tho, I’ve got all the minarelli hybrids, billet minarelli, built China dolls and I’d still love to have that bike. It’d be awesome on the bike paths in my area. I live on the same island as the university of Maine and there’s literally more miles in bike paths than roads lol.

Nice! Yeah I've had just about every type of setup too, except for a billet 2 stroke. That's my next project. I've done built china dolls, saw hybrids, minarelli hybrids, billet predator 212's, you name it. They were all awesome bikes, but the 2 strokes were all geared for high speed so trails were out of the question. If I geared the 212 down to like a max of 45mph or so I think it would have been pretty fun to take on some trails. I'm not a huge fan of the price tag on the Phatmoto, but it's definitely a fun ass bike to rip around on. Can't deny them that.

I love it! It really does sound just like a mini bike, I'd love to swap the carb out for maybe a VM18 or something and get a real pipe on there but the owner isn't interested in doing anything like that unfortunately

+1 I don’t trust aluminum frames for long term use
@PhysiqueGeek

I've been using these Faker frames to build my bikes for years, as most experienced builders prefer them, and I love them. I personally don't have much of any concern when it comes to cracking the Phatmoto frame, since they went ahead and welded gussets in at all the crucial stress points, it's about as solid as you'll ever get it.
@PhysiqueGeek
3 жыл бұрын
@@ghettobikelife8833 I ran a 17hp built 212cc Predator engine on my plain jane faker frame for just shy of two years without any issues. I know they can crack, like any other frame, but it's not a common occurrence. You have to be bombing around off road or doing massively hard launches to snap them. Or be a big boy lol, I only weigh around 175lbs though so that bits not much of a factor, for me at least.
@ghettobikelife8833

Hardware 570 yeah the phatmoto looks beefed up, I just hope it didn’t actually need it lol. I have a felt faker and a regular gas tank frame rn for future builds, I weighed them and they’re both in the 6lb range, with just a few ounces difference. I could see a few bad spots on the faker’s welding but it does seem like it’s built better on the outside. So haven’t decided which is better yet lol. I personally don’t like aluminum because the fatigue limit is so low/nonexistent that any amount of repeating stress could eventually crack it (google fatigue limit aluminum vs steel). For steel anything below around half of its max stress won’t cause the metal to fatigue at all. I have no idea how much riding it takes for the aluminum frame to finally break, but haven’t seen any broken ones on the internet atleast

The faker frame I bought was the cheapest I could find on eBay (I think umoto), maybe the ones from other vendors are welded better

I can't see buying one for $1200 when you can buy an Apollo 250cc (about 223 actual CC's) dual sport Chinese motorcycle for $1,500 ...It's actually of decent quality for only $1,500.

@@PhysiqueGeek It'd be awesome if they made a 300cc bolt on top end kit for the China 250cc engines for a couple hundred bucks. If someone made em they'd sell a ton.
@PhysiqueGeek
3 жыл бұрын
@@michaelbrinks8089 Hellll yeah if they did something like that I think they'd have a hard time keeping up with the demand. So many more people would be buying those engines if they had nice "bolt on" stages like that. That's definitely why the Predator/TIlly/Honda ~212cc engines are so popular, on top of being cheap and reliable.

It's a pretty damn fun little machine! Of course I'd love to beef it up and have it doing 60mph+ but it's just not built for that. I think if they were to use the Predator instead of the Lifan 79cc it'd be a much better value. At least then you'd have some aftermarket upgrades to choose from. Lifan has nothing for some reason lol.

Only thing I really don't like, at all, is the forks. They don't soak up much of anything lol. Brake calipers aren't the greatest either, but they still do their job well enough for what he needs it for. Neighbor uses it to ride like 15 miles each way to get to work every day so it's more about reliability than performance I guess
