Analo Phillips is an amazing man, known for his incredible memory, great stories, and ballad singing. He lives in the remote Shelton Laurel section of Madison County, NC, where his family has lived for generations. Here he tells stories of growing up in the rugged mountains of western North Carolina, making a living by farming, running a sawmill, and building cabins. He shares his amazing album of family photographs as he relates tales going back six generations, many tragic, others humorous, about his relatives and their friends. He also describes the tragic Shelton Laurel Massacre that took place in 1863 at the height of the Civil War and talks of his distant aunt who was alive at the time.
You'll hear Analo's haunting voice as he sings traditional acapella ballads that he learned from the old folks growing up. He also tells hunting stories and shows how to use a horn to call hunting dogs home. You’ll love getting to know Analo, seeing his family farm, and hearing his fascinating tales.
