Excellent - always much better when the Kobolds lean in harder to their own creative vision over the generic. Enjoyed the review. Thanks Jeff.

Good hearing your thoughts on the ToV Bestiary, Jeff. I hope that the DM's guide is on a similar level, once it's available. ⚔🍻

Great stuff. Ordering it now! The extra intencive? YELLOW dragons! They got wings right? Not like the wingless second iteration of Richard Alan Lloyd or the slamander looking 2e yellow sand one. BTW Any Kobold Press monster books that have purple and orange dragons? As in they are name Orange/ Purple dragons, not hidden behind " Underdark or Jungle names

Kobold Press puts out quality products but I have limited funds and unfortunately (a Freudian slip?) I think I’m going to stick with the new 5e D&D. I’ll probably wait for the eventual(?) Humble Bundle before I drop a dime on this product.

Does this book have elf enemies? What about angels / celestials?

It contains Drow and a handful of celestial types. ~ Jeff

3:23 so I understand you may not believe in balancing but it is a handy tool for GMs who want to split the difference of "you can't fight it " & "you accidentally killed my big monster " and instead build an encounter that while it's clear that the party can hurt the creature , THERE'S NO WAY IN THE 9 HELLS THEY CAN KILL IT right now

Balancing is fine but I don't believe in being a slave to balancing as many RPG rule systems tend to be these days. ~ Jeff

@@Thegaminggang I am personally not a balancer either I'm more of a "Well this guy is getting his ass kicked so let me just boost that health and give him a "second phase""

I know you said it was optional, but why does the GM need a meta currency to "buff" a monster? Just do it...they're the GM.

While it's rare : some GMs do like to run game as written /follow the game as closely to the rules , also remember sometimes a new GM may doubt their ability to balance abilities & more so there's sometimes times a GM blank on what to do to challenge the players so having this handy chart even if you don't use the doom points as written , can help with that momentary blank .

Also it's worth it just to be able to say It's Doom Time!

You keep saying you like Kobold Press' take on the monsters. What IS that take, then? This review would have been more useful if you had actually done a comparison between the same monster (say, a hill giant) in this book and in the 5e MM.

This is a review of the Monster Vault, not a side by side comparison with the Monster Manual. I did mention what I like better about many of the Kobold Press visions of the creatures as opposed to WotC's though.
