AMBALAL BALKRISHNA PURANI
(26.05.1894, Surat - 11.12.1965), a disciple of Sri Aurobindo who came under his influence in boyhood. He, along with his brother C. B. Purani, was a pioneer of physical education in Gujarat. He worked also to organise a wide-spread revolution for the liberation of the country on the lines indicated by Sri Aurobindo.
To seek his consent and guidance Purani visited Pondicherry in 1918. Sri Aurobindo gave him an assurance that India would be free even without a revolution, and advised him to concentrate on Yoga, for which he had a call. Soon after his second visit to Pondicherry in 1921, Purani became an inmate of the Ashram.
He was a personal attendant to Sri Aurobindo from 1938 to 1950. He sat at Sri Aurobindo’s bedside when he broke his leg at 1938. Then he published “Evening Talks with Sri Aurobindo”.
He was a prolific writer, and full of a remarkable verve and vigour.
