We should just use Swahili. It is easy to pronounce similar to the way English is phonetic. What you read is how you say it. It is a language that is not very tribal either, it is just a shared language. African Children should know 1 continental language, 1 global language and 1 local language. At the least. We need to factor this into our life. For example Swahili, English and Igbo or Swahili, French and Hausa. I am Nigerian

In Ethiopia 🇪🇹 according to the Ethiopian constitution the working language of the federal government of Addis Ababa is Amharic but 80 plus languages are spoken in Ethiopia. The majority of the modern higher learning education system of Ethiopia use English as the primary language to teach doctors, computer science, accountants, etc. For example on all my Ethiopian documents like Passport,Birth Certificate,ID,DL is written in Amharic & English. Most of the successful individuals in Addis Ababa speak more than one language & most speak either Afan Oromo/english, Amharic/english, Tigrigna/english.

Arabic, Swahili, and Hausa are good picks for north, east/south/central and west Africa respectively. They all have history as trade languages and are in use already by people across diverse ethnic backgrounds. These would work great as regional languages. And English can still be taught when it’s time for the select few to communicate internationally Also, one’s native language can still be spoken with those of your ethnic group. I think this is a great strategy because indigenous languages have structures and concepts that are easier for indigenous people to master since they are closer linguistically to languages in the area already. English is foreign not only culturally but linguistically as well. It’s very realistic for African people to speak 3 languages by the time they graduate college. You have been doing it for decades already. The linguistic diversity of Africa can be a real strength because since you already have experience cohabitating and learning multiple languages, it sets you apart from countries and regions like Asia where the English level is relatively low. Africa can be a leader in successful multilingualism and language education

Arabic will be good for some areas, but not all. It will be internationally connective language, same way some speak English, or some speak Portuguese in Africa. I say Arabic is a quasi-colonial language as well. As for Hausa perhaps Northern/Central countries. But it cannot reach fully since it is a tribal language with just as fierce tribes surrounding it who would never adopt it effectively (Yoruba and Igbo). The only Language I will agree to being continental is Swahili and it will face its challenges from tribal pride who wish their language to be above all

@@solomonKachi7000 Brother I am Oromo and the group who fight or hate Amharas are few compared to the Majority. They are agents of White colonial powers who hate Ethiopians specially Amharas because they lead the nations to defeat the the white colonial power. Now when they left, they planted a seed of hate and division. That is the truth my brother. Otherwise, Amharic is the national language/Federal official language as per the Constitution of Ethiopia and don't only belong to one tribe. It is the language spoken by all Ethiopians. Yes, it is the mother tongue for most Amharas but does not mean they only speak that as well. It is by the way the second largest semitic language spoken just second to Arabic. As I said before, this language has developed unique alphabets and digits by fully African. So as Chaines, Latin, Indians, Arabs etc We as Africans should embrace our own.
