It's the nature of the groove that first appealed to me. This song has an organic feeling to it (mostly thanks to the prominent use of acoustic instruments) that most of the 80's bands coming out of the synth pop genre never quite figured out. Mark Hollis's vocals are always so intensely passionate yet sound incredible no matter the venue. I would say his performance is effortless, but clearly Mark puts a lot of energy into creating a very specific vibe and it pays off splendidly here. The drum pattern is one of my favorite rhythmic phrases from the 80's - it's so cleverly done. And the affected guitar phrases are just a superb touch - little storms of sound. The organ and synth pads add to a resonant background that only occasionally comes into clear focus. Just an excellent song that really delivers on its positive vibe and is certainly something we could use a lot more of these days.
