@@earl-tf4qcthe good news is his back has mostly adapted to the stress through heavy lifting and most likely anabolic steroids and hgh by making bones thicker, denser and stronger. The bad news is adaptations are never perfect/without side effects. Tendons take longer to develop than muscle and bone takes even longer than tendons. They all adapt though but the adaptations mostly come from stress as a protective mechanism, however the stress is damage and the protective mechanisms/adaptations come after

its not so much that it is 330lbs but it is that it is a 330lb block. 330lbs really isn't a lot as a bar load. its like 7 plates. The shape of the weight affects the dicculty of the lift.

His best win in my opinion was against Zydrunas Savickas at the Fortissimus 2008. There is a great video on youtube where he lifted a 530 pounds natural stone and won the contest because of that (he was neck-a-neck with Savickas). The video is called "Derek Poundstone Lifts the Louis Cyr Stone (530 pounds)"

I was a fitness director at the gym that Derek trained in from probably 2007 till 13 or 14. I've never seen a more powerful human being in my life it just seems like strength from a different planet. The way he could effortlessly move things that I would break my back trying to lift off the ground. He was lean year-round also it was pretty amazing. A nice guy too

The power it takes to lift this type of weight. It's not on a bar or a pair of dumbbells. It's an awkward shape one must man handled up onto their pecs. Then press it up using a combination of strength and balance. So incredible how Derek lifted the final weight of 330lbs. 💪🏼🙏🏻✨

My neighbor growing up was a Scottish Strongman and he'd tra8n in the park beside our house. He'd also throw the tree trunk around and we'd watch him whenever he was out there.....amazing man 👍🏾 And his wife was a Scottish dancing teacher....great neighbors to have had 👍🏾👍🏾😀

For reference for how strong you have to be for this he could bench 500lbs, squat 600+ lbs and deadlift 800+ lbs. Not to mention how insanely strong all his stabilizing muscles had to be in order to swap grips on the way up. So sad that most of his injuries came from powerlifting when he really just loved strongman.
