Talking about that embraer tucano, there are a number of advantages to a turboprop aircraft as compared to a jet, you have a lower unit cost, lower operational cost, longer loiter times, the ability to use smaller or unpaved runways, and the ability to use avgas instead of jet fuel. And a jet really is overkill for a counterinsurgency.

The T-54/55 prototype was built in late 1945 and it entered service in 1949, so it fits in the mid 1960s time period. It wasn't uncommon for a military to make use of captured equipment, so the notion that the alternate Nazi regime would send captured medium tanks from the Eastern Front to America to aid in their occupation isn't too far fetched. Though a Walker Bulldog with German markings would probably have been a better choice.... still, whether by choice or accident, they made a plausible choice for a picture vehicle.

17:40 That VTOL is meant to be a Dornier Do-31, which was an experimental VTOL built by the West Germans in the 1960's. So while surprisingly on the nose, it's not anachronistic for the period. 34:33 Fair Play, the US was still using the Iowa-class during this period.

There was a lot of amazingly modern shit in the early 60s. The internet had been born, as DARPANET, the foundations of computer science had all been established along with many computer languages, etc so the computer room at the entrance of the dimension tunnel is actually not as silly as it seems. An Ancient Chinese Text was used by a Zen Master to teach the Japanese Trade Minister to travel to our reality through conscious meditation. Also the Germans captured Soviet T-34 Factories so they used Russian engineers to make a reserve cheap and fast tank to produce. Also they only can travel too and from our reality, you guys don't seem to know some details about these books and series. They can only travel if their counterpart is dead in one or the other realities (just the two), they don't understand how to travel to other parallel dimensions. They also mentioned Churchill's death. Once again the Nazi's captured a couple travelers and studied their brains and thought patterns to build the portal. (Sigh) Not meant to be rude, but do a review on a series you have more knowledge about. Army aviation and the Airforce are using prop planes for close air support as a cheaper alternative to the high demand for assault helicopters in asymmetrical warfare our military has been engaged in the last 19 years.

Heusmann looks like a cypher for Speer to me, with a change of name to keep the audience in the dark for longer about how important idiot Joe's dad is/was. Since he's the Reich's chief architect of grandiose construction projects. By the way, it's supposed to be Italy owning Africa, rather than Italy disappearing from the map. The Hawker-Siddeley Harrier was developed in the UK during the 1960s, coming into service in 1969. One of you sounds much like the maker of Puffin Forest animations. The motivation for wanting to conquer the multiverse is just ambition, as well as ideological - democracy, communism and Jewishness cannot be allowed to survive in other universes either. Other earths must have racial purification and militarist order too. I would like MITHC to try harder with the social and political middle distance, between the main characters in the foreground and the geo-political backdrop, and with coming up with variant weapons and eqiuipment, like some kind of compromse between the T-55 and the first generation Leopards as the post-war German MBT. And they wouldn't be using Mauses or super Mauses, because they would have had to get more practical than that to win the war. Obviously there's a lot there that we haven't seen yet, like how they defeated the Soviet union, and with what and against what, because Stalin would still have had his 5 year plans done and T-34s in production, and the Germans would still have had their problem of fuel shortage, unless they'd been able to invade the UK first, which they wouldn't have been able to do, because the defense of the UK was achieved without American assistance in 1940. If they'd delayed attacking the Soviet Union to take Egypt and the middle east, they still wouldn't have been getting enough oil in, because the Arabian penisula oilfields were largely undiscovered at the time, and the Soviet Union would have had longer to prepare and for Stalin to get over his excess of trust in German promises. The Soviet Unon's ability to resist wasn't primarily contingent of American Lend Lease deliveries, contrary to popular prejudice. Their shortages of production of things like trucks and radios could have been corrected over time, and the net effect would have been a longer war with heavier soviet casualties, but with the German advance going little farther eastwards than it did in our timeline, because of the Germans' shortages of manpower, fuel and supply infrastructure for that far east of Berlin. Likewise no matter how imbecilically neoliberal (or rather, just economically liberal, because it wasn't neo- until Keynesianism achieved the Trente Glorieuse in between) the US was, with the Great Depression therefore lasting into the mid '40s and industry being ravaged, there would have been enough warning of German-Japanese intentions for some kind of rearming and expansion of production to take place, and the US would still have been by far the largest oil producer at the time, meaning that even if the US Navy could have been beaten, the US Army and Airforce would have had the resources available to wear down the invaders over time, in terms of numbers of planes kept in the sky and tanks and trucks kept rolling, regardless of the relative production volumes.

Now that you mention it, he is basically exactly like Speer. Big public works projects, seemingly very benign, secretly holding reservations about Hitler. I wonder if Speer's family is still around, and they sue people who make him look bad. Also, speaking of resources, the fact that Japan is low on oil in the show is completely absurd. Japan has Siberia, Alaska, and the Dutch East Indies. That's fewer oil-rich sites than the Germans, but it should be more than enough.
@patrickholt2270
5 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Apart from anything else, they can trade their massive rubber surplus for any oil surplus the Reich might have. Or at least going by the rubber production picture in HOI4. The other thing that's Speerlike about him is no-one seeing him coming because of his apparent lack of ambition, and consequent ability to beguile his rivals, in the snarling bear-pit we know Hitler's inner circle was.

I think Ed being gay was thrown in as a more positive depiction of same sex relationships given the alternatives being J Edgar Hoover, Thelma Harris (she's a lesbian and her husband is gay, and they are serving as each other's 'beard'), and Nicole being bi. Ed being gay came out of left field for me too as I assumed he was also in love with Juliana based on the 1st and second season. Rockwell, maybe he was bi, or maybe just a voyeur. And talking about advanced tech, Joe had a suitcase sized cellphone! I'm guessing the video phones being B&W are because they can't make color monitors small enough. Color TV's seemed pretty common on the German side. Also I wish they would just use the acronym of GDR 'Grosses Deutsches Reich' You don't have to right all that out, except on official government letterhead.

This Vertical Take off and Landing airplane at 17:47 is not dumb, but a CGI of a real plane. It is a Dornier Do 31. A german aerospace project started in 1959 and finished in 1969 in real life. It was a military transport airplane, used just like a helicopter. A prototype was built and working, but the project was canceled due to high costs in favor of helicopters. Not too far fetched that it could have been completed 7 years earlier if germany won the war and was not occupied. (Just like the Concords shown earlier in the show.) They often (but not always) did good research in the show! Video: kzitem.info/news/bejne/2WmP25l5n2N7mH4 Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dornier_Do_31
