Feels like there is a fresh awareness that it's not the big names and big salaries that build a worthy contender in the NHL. The troubles of Toronto and the success of the Blues paints a picture that's easy to take in for many people. Admittedly it's overly simplistic, but if you add the Chicago and Kings mess and well run teams like Penguins and Boston to the mix one can really understand that it's about paying 1-2 people and paying the right guys. Then having the depth to make it through the grind.

Bad management makes for bad teams, good management makes for good teams. Now I am not a manager but some moves made have astounded me. Trading Hall; at the time I said dumb move (I think I was right in wondering what was he ???????). As a Leafs fan I remember the Kessel trade, so many Leafs fans were saying great move, I was saying bad f#ing move, I have lived through too many times of the Leafs having no patience and trading first round picks (this guy named Scott would have looked good with a Leaf on his jersey, but no first round pick). Now I don't know if you have seen the behind the scenes talk among the Bruins brain trust talking about what to do with Seguin (not a Leaf because of the Kessel trade and don't forget Hamilton), but the decision led by Neely (a player the 'Nucks gave up on way too soon) decided this young guy is not kind of player they want, he is too immature (yeah he is young and stupid,). Ttrade him to Dallas where he becomes one of the best forwards in the league. To the younger folk looking here, there was a Montreal Canadiens dynasty. Yes give credit to the players but the reason they had those players was because of this guy named Sam Pollock who wrangled his way to get the first overall draft pick, in exchange to give an expansion team a few nuts and bolts while the the Habs had to settle for Guy Lafleaur

It looks like both teams got 1 good season out of the deal, which means it worked out fine in the end. He'd look good in a Sabres jersey next season if he signs as a UFA, but Botterill doesn't have the cap space to swing a deal for him this season, and I'd be leery of giving up draft picks or prospects like Pilut or Ukko for him.

A trade to Toronto makes perfect sense. They need more forwards, especially a LW, and if they miss the playoffs then they will win the lottery and keep that first they moved to Carolina. Win-win.

How many times Chayka's Arizona made the playoffs with all that elaborate "planning"? How many Cups did David Poyle win? You can say whatever you want about Peter Chiarelly, and yeah, it could have been nice having now Blake Wheeler as David Krejci's RW - but 2011 Cup is for real, and everything else is purely hypothetical. Sometimes you gotta take your chances. If the Avs give NJD, say, Conor Timmins for the pure rental Taylor Hall and win ONE Cup, whilst Timmins going to have a 15 year long NHL career as a #1 defenseman - it would still be a good trade for Colorado

I think Carolina would be a great fit he’d put them over the top. Just that one more dynamic forward. He’d fit well in Vancouver but Benning has committed too much cap to the bottom six and injury prone players (and $10M of dead weight in Eriksson and Luongo).

I’m assuming it’s gonna be Colorado. With a reasonable long term extension. A couple draft picks/borderline prospects and byram. Yes byram is a blue chip prospect but adding hall could put them over the top. Him and kadri could have great chemistry on the 2nd line and I’m sure he’ll fetch some pp1 time

As an Avs fan, I was terrified when he was benched before the Devils game on Saturday - I thought we'd made a trade to get him.I REALLY do not want this. All the reasons Shannon give, just echo my thoughts. If we're in a prime position to contend at the deadline, then I'd maybe throw something to get him as a SC rental, but I wouldn't pay top dollar. For sure, I would not want an extended Hall under any circumstances.....

How far is Chicago out? Is la buying out kovalchuck to sign hall this offseason. How desperate is San Jose? Would vancouver want to take a leap? Just some BS to think about as I feel stlouis and Colorado shouldn't trade away their talented prospects for a rental. As a habs fan I rather keep the prospects than pay that price for hall. Arizona with new ownership may want to take the chance on him. Does Florida think he can out do dandonov or Hoffman. The Spencer knight speculations could be possible.

Hall's value shot up because of media as well. The mothership of the hockey media sphere located in toronto needed to inflate him a bit for the good of the constant, albeit well deserved yet not well intentioned #LolOilers stuff they like to pedal to leaf fans. They seem to me as a non canadian to get the treatment that I see nyc media give the jets in contrast to the giants. Look up the records the have and the last seasons both those football teams have had, and look up ny daily news or ny post articles on a basic google search pertaining to both teams and how the narrative is different.

Just about every NHL GM is not creative enough and that’s highly disappointing because anyone that’s actually trying to be the best would come up with some creativity. There are zero NHL GMs that are actually trying to be the best at their job. An example of creativity would be the Avs GM setting up a video call to Hall and his agent that includes MacKinnon, Landeskkg, and Rantanen and saying hey look, we’re all going to take less to win. I just don’t understand how no NHL GM comes up with things like that. Why didn’t Dubas call up Bauer while trying to sign Marner and set up a commercial where Marner gets paid a lot of the proceeds. The commercial could have been Marner shooting around on the ice wearing a generic NHL jersey sniping around on the ice and then he skates over to the bench with Dubas three, signs the contract, and then takes off the generic NHL jersey and puts a Leafs one on. The extra commercial money to Marner would allow him to take a lower contract. Like there is a zero percent chance that if these GMs were trying to be the best that they wouldn’t think of things like that. Creativity is a result of wanting to be the best.
