Funny that, I asked the Country File show (in the comments section) which wellies were best / most used on the farm; and there was no answer given. So, good to see how this most important bit of gear is considered on this channel! I sport a pair of Hunters myself...but only if it's very wet outside! LOL

Dunlop Explorers are the way to go. I've used them from +40C to -40C all day long. Put a lot of miles on them. Tried plenty of boots over the years and those are the best IMO. Gotta keep any boot clean or the shit will eat them though.

Have you ever tried the "Nora" wellies ? I used to get the cheap ones like you but the Dairy supplier we used recommended these wellies, they are NOT steel toe capped but they are very comfortable and let your feet breath, there also resistant to dairy chemicals and anti slip for use in the Dairy, when I used to buy them they were about £35 but I could get 2-3yrs out of a single pair.

After wearing through so many pairs of cheap gumboots, I've changed to the more expensive Skellerup (same brand as your winter ones) and have never had a problem with them. Of course I've been using the more lightweight Perths. They don't have steel toe caps but for the amount of times I've found myself in a situation where I'd need them hasn't been often at all, plus I find that they shape my feet more and are a lot more lightweight. I buy skellerup for most things, since the dairy shop RD1 sells them and it's always convenient for an NZ farmer. By most things, I have a pair of Red Band jandals, which are actually the best pair I've had since other cheaper quality ones fall apart really quickly. Skellerup also used to sell gloves for milking cows with. Very annoying that they've stopped. I mentioned before that I was very happy with a box of disposable gloves. After finishing the box I tried another brand, and they seem to fall apart instantly. They're cheap but it would be nice to get a couple of milkings out of them.

Richard, Are your paddocks normally wet in summer? When I was on the farm i wore Rubber Boots in winter and Blundstones (www.blundstone.com/) or similar in the warmer months except when milking as the rubber boots got far too hot in summer.

Richard, those quartos are disappointing, I wear aigile parcours 2 various for the winter and cotton lined aigile for the summer they wear well as should be expected for the price. I found muck boots fell apart within less than a year of farm use, This is going back a few years mind so they may have improved.

Hope it doesn't scare you, but steel toe caps are dangerous around machinery. I know a good few people who've had their toes severed off when heavy machinery ran over they toe cap and bent back the steel in a matter of seconds.
