I love your approach. Sometimes percussionists spend so much time exploring "exotic" tambourine techniques we forget our own culture. Thank you for reminding us.!

When I went to hear Roy Haynes at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola this past September, I saw Herlin through a window recording this is an adjacent room. I'm so glad it's posted here. From the time that I first heard him, he has always been one of my favorites. Herlin takes from the past and utilizes it in ways that are unique to him. He is a "natural" musician with an original voice and everything he plays feels great! Thank You for this!

LOL & i enjoy every moment of it

Love it!! Exciting to see Dr. Riley use the same methods to teach the techniques! Notice: he's playing pandeiro-style right-handed, then switched to play Gospel-style...left-handed! Deep!!!! Of course, the most exciting thing to see is how HR's face and whole demeanor light up when he's playing the 'rine!

I just love the simplicity of your tutuorial playing of the Tambourine, great job. After watching this video I'm not so intimidated by this wonderful sounding instrument. I'm going to purchase a beginners one, then if I can't get the rhythm together I'll give it to my children, if I do master it, ill buy myself a more expensive one, thanks for this video!

August 9, 2023_22:47 pm: Good afternoon Mr. Riley! While observing your hand movements, I noticed similarities to my own hand movements when playing the 6" Brass Chinese Buddhist Temple Cymbals. You gave me sufficient hope for wanting to possibly explore the tambourine. Thank you so much! 🙏🙏🙏💐👍👍👍

You just gave away all my secrets for playing the tambourine. lol, thanks though. It'll help people who feel like a tambourine can just be struck and jingle and whalla they're in sync with the jam. The only thing I would add is that if a person is playing impromptu (without prior practice) with others who are singing live... follow the drum beat of the song. Don't create a whole new beat to their song because it can throw off the flow or vibe they are wanting to create. Oh, and build up to the finish - don't give it all away in the beginning or your hands will be tired later.
