The Corsair my favorite aircaft of ww2 :) fantastic work!!! Very realistic!!!
Looks absolutely stunning, mate - the chipping is spot on as is the nicely faded yet subtle weathering on the main air frame. Your figures are amazing as well, my 1/32 pilot looks like an extra from The Walking Dead! I tried a different approach with the 1/32 version and have barely a chip on the whole thing and have gone for a variety of reflective finishes to show wear as well as some fading here and there. I was only able to do that because I used masks for the markings and didn't have to worry about the difference between decal and paint. Not one stencil was used either!!!

International British Modeler May I ask a question, how did you achieve the superb color effects on your plane. I was given a Corsair and I really want to do it justice. I think I can see were you used black (?) preshading around the panel lines on the wings and fuselage but how did you tone it down to get the different shades of blue? Thanks.
@InternationalBritishModeler
9 жыл бұрын
Hello Dan, I never use paint straight from the bottle/tin. I always tone the colors down with different amounts of white to get tonal variations, and if I want shadows, I darken them by adding a drop of grey or black. It's all experimentation to get the effect you're looking for. I've only been modeling for a year now, and I never did anything like I did with this build, on my first builds. If you watch my "Build Update" videos fort this model, you might be able to get some clues from them. hope this helps? Cheers, Martin : )

Martin,Very nice indeed! A "JOLLY ROGER" well built, excellent assembly, paint work,decaling, chipping and weathering. I looked up the Mk. thinking you could attach 2 bombs and rockets along with the fuel tank, but no go on the 1A. ID, 2 bombs and rockets. So you're spot on with the load that's on it. Martin, You would need to scratch build a rocket selection box that goes in the cockpit, right side upper just aft of the I.P.,on the cockpit wall, forward of the back frame of the forward wind screen. That 's where it is located on the 1D's and later. The 1A cockpit does not list or show a rocket selection box, in my Great book of Fighters{BONANZA} Wikipedia, I wouldn't trust. If Valiant pubs. or Kangero pubs. says it's so, go for it. I do have pics of the "JOLLY ROGERS" flying 1A's {Marshall,Solomon,and Bougainville} and none of them show rockets.In 1D's, rockets and 2 centerline bombs. I'm NOT saying don't do it, add the extra bomb centerline also if you want. BUT my advice is, don't go by Wiki. The model looks fantastic, another gem. - Bob

International British Modeler Ah, ok, i stand corrected! :) Looking at the kit sprues and Tamiya's website, although not mentioned in the instructions, it does have the parts for the rocket mounts on sprue E, #15,16,17 (but no rockets of course). Seems like the only kit of theirs which has the actual rockets is the one with the moto-tug set.
@InternationalBritishModeler

Yes, that's right, when I realized it didn't have rockets included, I looked at their other kits and wished that I'd looked harder before buying this one. I would have bought the moto-tug set version. You can buy nice treaded resin wheels for this kit too, along with PE for the cockpit.

I never thought of that, but yes, you're absolutely correct....that's what I'll tell anyone visiting my home who might ask about the figure standing on the wing...he's the "Wing Commander" in charge of the "Wing"! Enjoy building yours, I always enjoy these Tamiya kits....I love 'em! Cheers, Martin : )

Hey Warren, yep, the Arado AR 196 in 1/32 scale is my next build! Regarding the Tamiya paint, I get the 23ml pots. Hi from a sane part of America.Man this is fun to watch! As a historian I find this fascinating. How does one get so good at this?! I am a fan.
@InternationalBritishModeler
7 жыл бұрын
Thanks John, much appreciated! Are you referring to being good at the model making, the video editing, the inclusion of historical facts and technical specifications, or all of it in general? This is one of my older videos...my modeling skills have developed since this production. If you watch my first 6 or 7 build videos from 2014, when I began modeling after retiring, you'll see that those builds were very basic in every sense. I gradually developed my present skills from one build to the next, attempting different techniques with each one...techniques learned from watching videos of more seasoned builders here on KZitem. I also never allow myself to get to complacent, pushing myself to improve each technique I use and wanting to try new ones. You should give it a try...start with a simple basic kit, with basic tools...learn the basics and see if you like doing it. For most of us that have tried it...it's like a drug, we become addicted to styrene! Have fun if you do give it a try! Cheers : ) PS What part of America are you from...I live in New England.

Warren Blanch Hey Warren, that is a great price for your Tamiya paints! I pay $3.49 over here for a bottle, which is about 2.30 pounds. Those Eduard kits are nice...I've only built one so far, the Airco DH-2 Bi-Plane, but I do have another in my stash...a Fokker D.VII. look forward to seeing your BF109E4 come together. If you want to know what I'm building next, you'll just have to watch the end of this video! Cheers : )

Nice work man, looks like a weathered combat veteran of the late 1943 era. Think Tony's right the later F4U-1D and F4U-4's particularly the ships operating in Korea were heavily tooled up with eight 5-inch rockets and napalm!

Jim TheModeler Thanks Jim, appreciate you watching and commenting. Regarding the Rockets, according to Wikipedia, the F4U-1A's could carry 4 rockets. Here's the link to Wiki...scroll down to the specifications for the F4U-1A and it's listed under Armaments: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vought_F4U_CorsairCheers, Martin : )

Greetings from 'ole Blighty! Simply stunning mate! Chipping is fantastic! Looks incredible. I tip my hat to you Sir! I'm currently working on my first chipping exercise too with a Tamiya 1/35 Panzer II, but I'm doing the Humbrol Maskol method. Stay well buddy. :)

Well, if you do get back into modeling, have fun and make sure you post some videos to share your builds so we can enjoy, too! It looks like your standing next to a telescope...when I lived in the UK, I was big into Astronomy, I bought myself a Meade 6" Refractor with apochromatic lenses; it was a gorgeous telescope! Would love a Meade 16" Schmidt-Cassegrain, though! This one looks perfect for my dreams! www.meade.com/products/telescopes/lx200/lx200-acf-16-with-super-giant-field-tripod.html

So Cool. Fantastic Job Martin. I so much what to make a Corsair. My Pop Mac Mcginnis was a Radio Operator at 18 years old in the US. Navy. Served on two Aircraft Carriers. The USS. Oriskany and The Bonne Home Richard. In the Korean War. The Shit hit the fan . When a Million Chinese Troops got into the fray. They ran flight operations 24/7.They had Corsairs, Douglas Sky Raiders and the first generation Navy Jet. The F9F Panther by Grumman. Love to here him talk about his time in the Navy. Pop said to me more sailors/ airmen got killed from Mishaps with ordinance, landing, people walking into props.fire. jet wash blowing guys into the ocean. etc. then getting shot down. When my skills improve. Would love to make a good Model of a F4U Corsair. If i build a F9F Panther Navy Jet. Could I buy aftermarket Decals to mark them as the aircraft carriers my dad served on? RIP Ralph "Mac" McGinnis.1933-1998.

Thanks Patrick, much appreciated! My Father-In-Law was a "Screaming Eagle" with the 101st Airborne during WWII and was dropped into Normandy from a C-47 Skytrain on D-Day....he had passed away a year before I met my wife, I would have loved to have met him and chatted with him about his two years in Europe at that time, just like you enjoyed the stories your pop told you. Cool that he served on two Aircraft Carriers during the Korean war. Regarding the F9F Panther Jet and after-market decals, you could start by looking at this link to Scalemates..com: www.scalemates.com/search.php?fkSECTION%5B%5D=All&q=f9f+panther Regarding the Douglas Skyraider, I built a A-1J USMC version back in February 2015: kzitem.info/news/bejne/ybCny3VtaqendWk Cheers : )

If you’re referring to the new Airfix 1/24 scale kit due to be released in May, 2019, then Hell-Yeah-Cat, me too!! But, the price of it will have to drop a considerable amount before I can buy one...usually after one to two years the new kits can be picked up for half their original cost, just have to be patient. If you haven’t seen my latest video, then I recommend you do, it’s the Airfix 1/24 Hawker Typhoon Mk.Ib “Final Reveal”....here’s the link for it: kzitem.info/news/bejne/yaWiuqewiatyam0 Cheers 👍🙂🍺🍺🍺

Tony De Hey Tony thanks for watching and your kind comment, much appreciated! Me no play possum, that was my 16th build since starting modeling in January 2014. I just like trying new ideas and methods and never get complacent with my last model, always wanting to improve on the next one. Whether that happens, I don't know, so posting on here and getting comments gives me good feedback as to whether it worked or not, and whether to use the technique again. And, behave yourself...get your kit out from the stash and enjoy building her, she's a great kit and I'm sure you'll do a great job! Cheers, Martin : )

I'm "fortunate" in the sense that because I quit work in the summer of 2013, I have lots of time available to me. That Tamiya 1/32 Corsair is a great looking kit, but there's a large difference in the price compared to the 1/48, but, tons more plastic and details! You'll have to send your family on a 2 week vacation alone to leave you at home to work full-time on it! Cheers : )
