Nice kit, my first RC was the Sand Scorcher. That ESC is way better then the dragster not keen on them one but love the Tamiya Hobbywing. Nice the old blister packaging, but no tube of silicon sealant anymore to keep the water out of the gearbox.

I posted a video on my community page a few days ago with the 1978 mint 400 race, which is the race the Tamiya executive engineers attended and got their ideas for most of the early Tamiya’s. Definitely worth the watch

If you tighten the rubber plugs up they expand and it will hold the box a lot firmer or you can cheat put the bolt through the bottom of the box get a small strip of mecharno put the bolt threw it then screw the rubber plug on the it will not move mine is done like that and it has lasted for years.

Can’t wait to see you racing this, super cool choice 👍 I think the originals had a 7.2v hump pack, you can still get them, I think Modelsport have them if your lipo won’t fit

Got the lipo to fit 👍 yeah, just hope i get in with it 🤞 then i can relax a bit on the sat and enjoy it. No stressing about tyres or set up 😂

As someone who has raced a Rough Rider four times at revival now I can confirm they are a load of fun…in a slightly masochistic way! Definitely great camaraderie with the SRB drivers though as we all struggle to keep them on their wheels and of course all their wheels on them!

Wow, great choice Dude, a proper retro kit that one, loving all that Diecast, the nostalgia on this one is off the chart from the moment of lifting the box lid -exactly as it should be with all kits. Great to hear your putting a proper motor in her, but -1 point for even mentioning changing the shocks, guessing you won't be junking that battery foam and replacing with a nice piece of whittled Balsa either lol - if you do? i know a guy,.. all we need is a Ouija board and play Clive Dunn's "Grandad" backwards apparently. cheers AB.

😂 going it run it stock to start with, see how it is out the box 👌 hopefully no Ouija boards are needed 🤔

I love those SRB buggies I have a re release Sand Scorcher and i love running it in snow because of the locked diff Many people mount those shocks upside down. I use shocks from RC Channel and they don't leak A shorty fits easy these days, back in 2013 when i got mine i had to use a special Carson hump back battery

I used to not be interested in the SRB buggy’s but now think there very cool, it’s funny how your tastes change over the years. Nice build video and looking forward to the finished buggy , go win that A at revival ;)

Nice buggy. I think it's the first 2WD off-road from Tamiya (obviously the original one from 1979). It's also a car that can "easily" be runned in wet condition with the "waterproof" radio box. Can't wait to see what you're going to do with the body 😊

Regarding the radio box being so easy to remove you need to really tighten up the two screws that go into those rubber grommets on the chassis. That then pulls the metal insert in the grommet down and makes the rubber bulge out inside the radio box to hold it firmly in place, a bit like a pop rivet. Hope that makes sense!
@lo2713

It does, i’ll have a look at it next weekend 👍 cheers for the tip.

Also, it helps to press down on the electronics box while you're tightening the grommet. This way the grommet mechanism doesn't try to push the box away from the frame. It's actually a well done fastener system for today's technology let alone 40+ year old design!

Nice video! You can get double up the chassis to take out more of the flex! You run shocks upside-down to reduce leaking! Ball diff makes a lot of difference when racing it!

I bought a re-release Sand Scorcher kit and the ball diff at the same time lol Ive spent enough time of my life "trying" to control one of these hahah With a 540 motor, the locked rear end is manageable. I also come from the days of mechanical speed controllers and stick radios. But I like em fast. I run brushless motors and lipos in everything. Uncontrollable without a a differential (ball or gear) That's just my two cents.

To stop the electrics box wobbling like that, just tighten the two funny rubber connectors from underneath. The rubber part expands as you tighten and grips the plastic box. Yes I know a bit odd but that’s how it works.
