Brings back fond memories of when I owned one. I recall the biggest problems with it were a lack of differential, no rear double wishbone suspension and it was woefully heavy compared to other R/C buggies of the day.

This is a great video for me to watch because this was the first rc model I bought back in 1984.I bought this along with the frogger.I would love to see this buggy brought back to updated specks in a 1/8 scale version,I would buy it in a heart beat.Thanks for posting this,it sure brings back lots of memories for me.

You caused me to shed some tears while watching this great video! .. I went way back to 1982 when my older bro bought me this car kit when I passed my 9th grade in school, so I spent the first few weeks of the summer break building it, I could not feel the hours passing by and only was annoyed by the yelling of my mother to come for the dinner .. when I finished it and did the first test drive, I was the happiest kid in the neighborhood! .. the kit was selling locally for the equivalent of $120 USD and the 2 channel transmitter was an additional $80 USD.

I had one of these back in 1982/83. My favorite thing about this car was breaking that rear bumper, and having the A arms hang loose. At the end of my driveway the sidewalk had a nice ledge that hit the bumper just perfectly to snap off the edge when it hit. Thank god they made this out of aluminum

Thank you for your comment. And yes, good question what the F S stands for. I think it comes from the F.F.P.D.S. (see Box) which means Free Floating Progressive Damping Suspension. And made it short to F S, so then "F-ree floating prog. damp." - "S-uspension" or "F-FPDS" - "S-ystem"....cheers!

Also, when I bought mine, there was no such thing as a Scorcher re-release. The S.C. was about half the price of a NIB original Scorcher, if not less. So it was a way for me to get the few remaining parts I needed to complete my parts bundle for a new build original Scorcher. It also meant that I could combine clean old parts I had, with what was left of the S.C. kit to build a very smart & clean period runner for occasional, gentle use on short, dry grass etc. I have started neither car yet LOL

Hi! This bottle is connected with a damper tube to one rear damper. So the oil is always moving during shock absorption through the tube. Not a necessary construction perhaps, but it is and looks cool... :-) rgds, D.

Thanks Tamor :-) I have a number of SRBs along with a NIB Super Champ that i've been undecided over whether to build or not, for years now. I always wondered why so many examples have such horrible positive camber & hoped it was that simple a solution. It's one of the things that has put me off of building mine. The cable ties are not an attractive solution. I have been considering building mine & using short, small gauge chains to limit the arms instead of the ties. Lovely cars & footage btw :)

All right, got it with the id's....;-) Yes, I took this shooting in Italy - Adria Beach side, about in the middle of Italy, its Abbruzzo (a bit north of Pescara), absolutely beautiful place there....but too far for just a weekend trip.... Unfortunately I didn't have much time for the filming....so my footage was very limited for a whole video... But thanks again for your compliment :-) I've never been in Denmark, but Germany/Norderney and Netherlands/close to DenHaag@beach wth my Tamiyas..

Hi ap :-) No Sir, they did not re-re the Super Champ or the Ranger. They've only done the Rough Rider (Buggy Champ) and the Sand Scorcher. The Super Champ was made for a while after the other SRB based cars went out of production, so that would probably explain why there seem to be more left. They have become slightly less desirable over the years too, owing to the cable ties used in the construction & the lack of waterproof radio box. They are a classic though and unique so do command a price.

Where do you shoot your fantastic clip btw? I'm still looking for the photos I took of my Super Champ in the early 80s on the beach - so your superb video is the perfect sort of replacement so far - now I can show my friend this great RC model. Still have it in storage btw - but my Multiplex radio control from the 80s need to be fixed (or replaced) - also the servos and acu - and the bodywork needs a facelift too... Have Patrick Depailler as driver - "stolen" from another Tamiya RC car ;)

I notice the car with gold wheels seems better set up in the rear. Was the reduced positive camber achieved by simply tightening the cable ties on the rear links?

I totally understand. Was the SC re-released by Tamiya in the somewhat recent past? It's not listed at all on Tamiya-America's site. There are other re-releases listed as 'Discontinued.' Makes one wonder where the NIB SCs which pop up on eBay come from? Thank you and, best of luck with your project.

What was the idea behind the oil tank, and did it really work. I had the Ford Ranger back in the day and always wanted this one.
@Tamor70
8 жыл бұрын
Hi there! sorry my late reply, and thanks for your comment. The oil tank serves for the rear shock absorber, oil filled. And yes, it works. But it's more for a reservior for the oil and looks cool. Shock absorbers also work without reservior ... I can recommend this model very much, and meanwhile you got also a re-issue (hurray..!) wich is called "Fighting Buggy", all the best

Sorry ap, i'm afraid not Sir :( It took me too long to find her. She may well be getting cannibalised to build an all new, original Sand Scorcher for display and a 50/50 new & old Superchamp runner. I haven't decided yet. They do seem to turn up NIB on ebay more and more often these days and they are no dearer than they were roughly ten years ago though :)
