Been here 35+ years and they're a lot of hidden treasures, if you're here for the wildlife, go kayaking on weeki wachee river (about an hour drive from palm harbor north on US19), you'll see bald eagles (there's a nest you can see from the river) manatees, snakes, and maybe even a gator, although gators dnt particularly care for cold springs. If you want to see a gator in the wild go to Anderson park (palm harbor/ tarpon springs) or chesnut park (palm harbor/ eastlake area) around dusk, dnt go any later because the parks normally close at sun down. Always assume they're gators in every body of water in Florida, that's the best rule of thumb, and just because there isn't any in a retention pond today, doesn't mean there wnt be any tomorrow, they do move around. It's always a good idea to talk to the locals, they'll tell you where you want to go depending on what you want to do. Above all else, respect our state, our beaches and our wildlife and we will welcome you with open arms.

I've been living in Tampa since 2014, and I noticed he forgot to mention one other thing about Tampa drivers, other than turn signal usage. An incredibly high percentage of drivers like to drive at night with no headlights on. Up in Chicago (where I'm from) you might see 1 out of every 10,000 drivers with no lights on. Down here it's more like 1 out of every 20. I bicycle ride from South Tampa to Hillsborough Ave every day for work and exercise. And I see at least 1-3 drivers with no lights on, for each mile of my 9 mile ride, EVERY DAY. When crossing streets here, don't just be looking for headlights, take care to look for actual cars.

EXCELLENT video. Only other advice is to be SUPER careful if you do go clubbing in Ybor. In addition to the normal dangers of clubbing (sexual assault, skipped drinks, bar fights etc.) It's blocks away from some really dangerous neighborhoods. Park as close as possible (or ideally avoid driving at all) and get out of there by 3am. Between that and the traffic I'd say honestly, just be on defense mode at all times when you're not in a theme park, museum or hotel room lol.

This is actually a pretty solid list. I'd add "Don't forget to do the Stingray Shuffle" at the beach. It's not sharks you need to worry about, it's stingrays. And regarding hurricane season; Tampa rarely gets hit directly, but each summer does bring some drama and there will be the occasion where we are in the Cone of Uncertainty, which causes everybody to run out and buy up all the supplies and even evacuate the beach communities just as a precaution. The peak month is September, but October can be busy too for the gulf coast. Also, it WILL rain every day for about 30 minutes in the late afternoon during the summer. Usually with lots of lightning, so be prepared to deal with that.

I dont know if I agree with you about Ybor City (which I kept accidentally pronouncing as 'Ya bore', even though I knew it was pronounced 'Ee bore') especially at night. The sheer amount of homeless people and druggies wandering around the main drag at night was very off putting, and I'm from NYC, I'm used to seeing it. I didn't feel safe there at night, and it takes a lot for me to say that. I'm going back down to Tampa this month, I'll probably check it out again, but during the day. St. Petersburg and Clearwater, however, were awesome day and night.

Reasons you shouldn't move to Tampa: *Their drivers are possibly the worst in the world. I was nearly hit in a cross walk (while it said walk) over 50 times 10 years. My girl got in 2 accidents in one month and she was parked both times. * People here are lunatics. They initiate a conflict then go grab a gun. They are very disrespectful and will try to holler at ya girl or man in your face. In fact they are more agressive when you are with your partner. Even the news said that Hillsborough county has the highest rate of babies born on drugs in the state. * Due to gentrification rent is getting more and more expensive. A shitty 1 bedroom in the hood is $800-1000 and prices continue to rise. Most apartments have wait list cause there are so many people moving. They will crank the rent in the middle of the lease. * There are tons of sex offenders and rapist. A lot of perverted weirdos period. My girl has had to mace several random dudes trying to follow her. One of her cousins went to jail because a random dude was following her from the store to her car at night. She warned him 3 times and he kept coming closer so she shot em. *Spice/k2 is an epidemic out here. It's also known as toonchi. It's a zombie drug similar to bath salts. Literally turns people into the walking dead. To tourist, suburbians, and locals in denial who live in a bubble it seems like a wonderful town but anyone who lives in the actual city that's not from here will tell you this is a strange place.

Traffic.. hahahaha. Yep.. We have the wreck or two of the day on I75 all the way from the Georgia border to Tampa. I live in Florida and Tampa is a million times better then Orlando.. That aquarium is amazing As for night life, everything from modern clubs to strip clubs to plain old 'Bud Light' type good ol boy bars. There are casinos and such as well. As for Florida, if you want a city and area with everything, Tampa is the best.

Just want to point out that it’s not an hour to Orlando. I-4 is awful so it could easily be 2 hours if you go at a bad time. Also Tampa has some of the best Breweries (Coppertail, Cigar City, Hidden Springs, 7th Sun)

If your PRIMARY vacation destination is DISNEYWORLD do not arrrive via Tampa Intl. airport. Go directly to Orlando. They have a huge international airport and tons of hotels with vacation package plans. If you have enough time (and $$$$) to stay in Florida and visit both cities then where you land and depart is not a big deal. Have fun and bring lots of sunscreen & bug spray! (BTW -screened "Florida Rooms" are also called "lanais")
