Nice review. I recently picked up the Sony 24-105 f4 and I love it. The 24-105mm range is good and constant aperture is preferred.

The 24-105 is way expensive. The 28-200 is just a 3td stop slower from 79-105 and faster than 24-105 for half the range. For ultra wide, I have the 17-28 f2.8

The 28-200 murders the 24-240 in IQ. It might get offended if we repeatedly compare it with the Sony 10x😆😆. It wants to to be pitted against the 24-105 f4.

I have had this for over a year. It's nice for travel because you can get most out of it and travel lightly, but with lower lights, i have noticed that it does'nt do a great job focusing. wondering if someone else has similar issues with it

It would be cool to see a comparison of this lens to the Tamron 28-75 and 70-180, especially stopped down to F/8 (for landscape photography, etc) to compare image quality. It might make more sense to buy the 28-200 along with a fast telephoto prime for portraits.

Dan, Am planning to get the A7 iv body skipping the 24-105 for this 28-200! is it worth it!? as a travel lens which is more preferable?
@learningcameras
2 жыл бұрын
So as a travel lens, this 1 lens will be more convenient for sure and give you the longer range but the 24-105 is a bit better quality and I think for most people, 105mm would be plenty for travel. Now if you also wanted to be able to get your kids playing sports far away or wildlife, having 200mm might be better

Great video! I am interested in this lens as an all-in-one travel lens (mostly hiking long distances). Would you recommend it for that purpose, or are there other lenses that you think would be more suitable?
@learningcameras

So the only potential reason to not get this is because the starts at 28mm which is not all that wide if you want to shoot landscapes or something like that
@kesunga

I am interested in this lens too for traveling. But I’m thinking more as a replacement for the 28-75. Although I don’t know how often I’d use the higher end and so if it’s worth buying. But I find that the 17-28 is a really great lens to bring for traveling and I use it often in shooting landscapes. So if you don’t mind lugging 2 lenses (and the cost) these two lenses might be a good combo to bring.

Hi Dan would you recommend this for wedding videography?
@learningcameras
3 жыл бұрын
Definitely if you want to try and use a single lens, this is the best option but I prefer using constant aperture lenses and ideally F2.8 lenses for weddings because there are often in low light. Instead I would look at getting this: bhpho.to/2PXTnhZ and this: bhpho.to/3xrKNwz which are slightly better quality and better for low light and blurring the background without having the aperture change as you zoom.

Hey! So if you are shooting fast moving subjects where you have a fast shutter speed anyway, you can live without stabilization. However, if you are shooting non moving subjects or posing people where you can typically lower your shutter speed, having stabilization makes a big difference. Also, if your hands are shaky, ibis or lens stabilization can help keep the image in the viewfinder from getting shaky before you actually take the image. For my coffee infused shaky hands lol, I do like having some form of stabilization

Dan - any opinion on which is the better choice between the Tamron 28-200 and Sony 24-105 f4?
@learningcameras
3 жыл бұрын
If you need the range or a single lens that does everything, get the 28-200 but from a direct quality comparison, the 24-105 will have a bit of an edge and will not change aperture on you when zooming
@darrenhaken

@@learningcameras thanks for taking the time to reply Dan. I've never owned a true telephoto range before so I'll have to give it some though. I currently own the 24-105 so I suspect I'll stick with what I have.

Little suggestion: your video has gone next level. I've been your subscriber since they were definitely not this good but great info still. You have to take your look more seriously. Where solid stuff...forget those college looking shirts with a lot of branding on it. Remember they aren't paying you. Also mind that 2.8 zooms usually have pros in mind, such as wedding photographers. This in turn may mean, its autofocus may be more suitable (faster and snappier). Also, outdoor people photography generally likes to shoot against the light, so the resistance against flare artefacts is another factor. Unlike vintage prime lenses, the flare artefacts of modern "consumer" zooms can tend towards being ugly and distracting, unfortunately. This video "review" here is far to shallow to allow you drawing any decision for or against keeping your 28-75.

@Ziggi Mon Well, I just got this 28-200 today and compared it against 28-75, Sony 85mm 1.8, 100-400mm GM. I have to say I'm quite impressed with 28-200. Even against the big boy (GM) at 200mm, it competes well. At 85mm, I do think Sony 85mm is a bit sharper (then 85mm f1.8 is even sharper than 85mm f1.4 GM) . Now back to 28-75mm, I do think it might be slightly more contrasting, and since I shoot even often, I wouldn't trade it for 28-200.

From a sigma 24-70 art owner point of view, would you consider the purchase of the tamron 28-200 in order to cover all the possibilities durinn travel or would you go for the tam 35-150 instead? The choise has to be seen from the perspective of a travel photographer in love with enviromental portraits and street/wild shooting.

I mean the 35mm is better quality and has the aperture advantage but it's super heavy so if that means you won't want to pack it or bring it, get the 28-200

It will work for sure and technically have even better image quality since you will only be using the center of the frame. Obviously this will be more of a telephoto only lens rather than an all around lens but still would work well
