How do you compare the image quality with the tamron 24mm and is the focus faster? thanks.

I would agree with your statements on this lens. Very neutral, not biased. I use this lens myself on the A7R III. There are, for sure, lenses there even sharper, however I don’t really think you will notice it. Contrast and sharpness are excellent. MFD is very nice, much closer than other 35mm lenses. Handling is very nice too with this lens hood, you don’t make your lens larger by using it permanently and you can just leave a UV filter on it to protect it from dust etc. AF, however, is the weak spot on this lens. For photos, I don’t think it is so bad, but in video mode it always wants to readjust and doesn’t really rest on your subject. And it’s clicking all the time, yes. Nevertheless, for about 180€ this is a stellar lens. It is million miles better than Sonys 50/1.8 at the same price range. I really love to use it. And I hope Tamron comes up with a 35/1.8 or 1.4 later this year. I really enjoy their lenses, they are affordable and make the right compromises for my taste. Lately got the 28-75 G2 and I‘m still stunned with it .. I don’t know why people would spend 3x the money on the Sony GM.

I also bought the Sony 90mm macro and your review is spot on! As for the Tamron 35mm. Yes it's a cheap budget lens but for the money I would choose the Samyang 45mm f1.8 everytime.

Nowadays you can shoot your shot at this lens around 100€ used in germany. Basically a no-brainer 👌🏻

I own this lens, Its good but makes hell lot of Noise when autofocusing. its very irritating and slower. In the future I am keeping this lens only for doing macro photography or landscapes.

Agreed, especially for video it’s almost unusable. Click click constantly whilst out of focus for 20 seconds not even seeking. Stick to MF and external mics and it works. For photos slow AF but generally fine. I have come from an apsc canon background so I’m used to cheap lens with good AF, I have lenses that were half the price but light years better for video. It’s not all bad though it takes a nice photo and has macro capabilities.

Wonder how this lens stacks up against the 28-75mm f/2.8; both shot at f/2.8?
@JohnDennery

Since this is also 2.8, does it offer any optical advantages over the 28-75? I’m guessing price and size are the only reason but I haven’t seen any direct comparisons yet. Cheers

Sony is the better lens hands down but more expensive. If you shoot any video, sony all day.

What camera did you do the review on. do you think the tamron is as good as sigma as a brand
@StefanMalloch

Done on the A7iii. They are different.. Tamron is usually more compact and simple where Sigma is bigger with more features. Both have great value.

It looks like it starts to be softer after f4. Diffraction from f5.6 is not very good for landscapes 🙁
