In this tutorial you will learn the proof of the following 2 very important trigonometric identities:
(i) tan(x + y)=(tan x + tan y) / (1 - tan x tan y)
(ii) tan(x - y)=(tan x - tan y) / (1 + tan x tan y)
These can also be written as
(i) tan(a + b)=(tan a + tan b) / (1 - tan a tan b)
(ii) tan(a - b)=(tan a - tan b) / (1 + tan a tan b)
To prove these identities, you can use already proven identities of cos(x+y), cos(x-y), sin(x+y) and sin(x-y). The proof of identity cos(x+y) = cos x cos y - sin x sin y is one of the most important derivation. It is recommended to learn the proof / derivation of this identity in case you are not aware of it.
