I used to work at a Tandy Computer Center and got to play with a Tandy 5000. I wish I could find one just to say I own one! :)

I had a Tandy back in the 90s to write a book report w/o an Internet connection...I used DOS and Windows 3.1 and it even came with a floppy drive... I didn't even know what the internet was or how it works...

Does anybody know anybody that ACTUALLY had a Tandy 5000 MC model computer or know if there are still surviving examples of these? I assume due to their cost not very many still exist in working order. But it would be interesting to se someone review this actual machine 33 years later rather than just remark on its price from the advertisement.

They must be very rare. MCA never became popular and most units that had it were IBM machines.

I'd like to think I was fairly computer literate in the 80s, but I never really considered Tandy a real competitor. Even when I worked at Software Etc in 1989, I didn't give much thought to the labels that mentioned PC Jr/Tandy graphics or sound on games. Had I continued to browse Radio Shack catalogs in the mid to late 80s, would I have known how good they were? Maybe, but it's really something you need to see and hear in person, and Computer Chronicles wasn't doing that, nor were Radio Shack commercials. I could've spent the same money on a Tandy 1000 as I did building my own PC and had a better experience, but just didn't know.

They had 60% of the PC market in the late 70's and the Model III was the best selling computer of all time in 1980 when they still had 40% of the market despite the Apple II being out. They weren't exactly also rans

During the time of the Model-1 I would type in programs from computer magazines and ordered Scarf Man through an ad, though later bought an assembler cartride for a TRS80 Coco.

Taking non-executive management, who don’t have to do a lot of public speaking, and having them do on-camera narration is often a recipe for disaster
