I'm so grateful for this channel. Any other chess channel bores me....this is always upbeat, entertaining throughout. Quick paced in showing analyzed positions, and doesn't talk too long about any one thing, just keeps it moving. I love it.

I suppose it depends on what your threshold for 'refuted' is. Does it lose by force? No. Does it weaken your king and give black a lot of freedom to control the narrative? Yes. Is it a lot of fun? Also yes.
@khayman9574
Жыл бұрын
Well, if you go by maths only, "refuted" means, not accounting draws, you lose more than you win. However, that doesn't really apply here, does it? In order to obtain a mathematical average, you'd have to have the exact same conditions all the time which, in a game played by humans (hell, in everything involving any amount of cerebral activity), is simply impossible because there are too many unpredictable variables to take into account (like everything that can affect the players' strength and performance on that day, really everything, down to the morning's coffee). So, basically, you just have to work with what you've got, meaning games played in the past and their outcome. However, given the recent advancements in computerised chess, everything we used to know about the game might be about to change and I hate that! That's why I've recently stopped playing.

@@segundacuenta726 Right. Tani was building up so much pressure on g1 and g2. Sacrificing a rook for the knight would have gave him room to play without threat of checkmate and if Tani moved the queen, he would have taken the rook which would probably have made the position close to equal

At some point early in my chess studies, I discovered 2. …Bc5 immediately as a response to the king’s gambit. It immediately prevents white from castling and has a couple nice tactical chances on f3, but I was constantly conceding c3, d4, e5 and getting steamrolled in the center. These days I play the falkbeer counter gambit as a cheap and dirty way to chuck a pawn and make white’s development super annoying. At my level, folks who are used to the blitzed development in the KGA or KGD get super impatient and make early mistakes. Check it out if you need something new.

What do „Alphazero“, „Stockfish“ and the other engines say about the King‘s gambit?
@crystallized1676
Жыл бұрын
Okayish to good. They never pick it themselves but if forced to don't have an issue with it. Engines score as white quite well in KG. The problem from the human point of view is that KG is so freaking demanding. Plenty of lines for black and most often just 1-2 good moves for white which you have to find or know. People simply mess things up at some point and in KG there is a very little room to mess hence the reputation.

It seems to me in a lot of games, the unwillingness to give up an exchange (for example sacrifice a rook for a knight to stop an attack in advance) ends up costing the game... So in order to keep the game going and have some chances one has to be willing to accept some losses (exchanges or sacrifices) otherwise things go worse.
