Very nice to see tank humbled in age and hope his health improves. I'm 54 as well and was a UFC alternate in 94 and 95. I despised tank in the early yrs as i'm a traditional martial artist "Goju-Ryu" and tank showed very little respect for other fighters and that is NOT of our warrior "code" as he stated. Tank has since learned respect, honor and dignity (again, very nice to see)......these are the true qualities of a true warrior/martial artist. Best wishes Mr. Abbott

I've never had as much empathy for Tank as I do right now, and I am glad he seems at peace with himself. (I always thought he was a disrespectful douche-bag...great fighter tho.) All my favorites from the way back are crippled these days though. These men made heavy sacrifices both in and out of the cage. They were underpayed, overworked, and underappreciated. They layed the stone that paved the way to where the sport is now. Much respect.

I think what makes him one of the greats is the respect he has for the gifts giving to him by the people he never met. His is a legitimate badass in and out if the octagon. I’ve always been a Tank fan. I love the under dogs and brawlers. UFC needs more brawlers. Need to go back to the old tournament style fighting 3 or 4 times a night instead of twice a year. The first fighters in the beginning were true fighters and warriors. As a high school wrestling coach one thing I try to teach is the mental toughness they need to keep pushing even when the odds are stacked against them win lose or draw wrestle til the whistle blows don’t stop. Much respect and love Tank.

I was thrilled when the first UFC came out but found it lack luster as well as the next four. However, when UFC 6 aired on July 14th, 1995, Tank came out and was everything I was looking for in pure action and excitement. Tank was the one who put the UFC on the map, not Royce, Shamrock or Severn. Yes, they were truly skilled but boring to watch. Thank you David "Tank" Abbott for all your exciting fights and hilarious promos. Dana needs to put you in the Hall of Fame!

Muhammed Autobahn yes but he only fought once and lost. Also he didn’t alter those like Tank did. Bowans gloves look like the same brand Tank worse. Harbinger bag gloves. But Tank removes the palm bar in the glove so he could grapple being a wrestler. Tank also was effective and won for many years which played a roll in the sport adopting the glove. Which is why no one remembers Melton wearing them. He didn’t have an impact.

Tank had a stile of his own. He’d bump forward to keep his opponent on his heals and deliver unbelievable power shots. A lot of national talent but had no interest in keep up with the cardio or submission defense. Tank vs Kimbo was the real king of the streets and BMF and judging by the jab that buckled Kimbo’s knees it would have been even more competitive in Tank’s prime.
