Hi, Bob, I am so grateful that you are getting back to these technique videos, thank you! You probably have seen films with Paul Draper- there is one called "Colleen" in which he dances with Ruby Keeler. It's one of those formulaic "Broadway Melody" type scenarios, but always fun to see such great tappers and production numbers. And there is a rather strange film with James Cagney (produced by the Cagneys, as well) called "The Time of Your Life" in which Draper portrays a regular in a "Cheers"-like bar, and he more or less dances every time he appears on the screen. Just thought I'd mention these for any of your subscribers who might've missed them. I am looking forward to more "tap talk"!

Kathleen, here's a rare gem about Paul Draper - the 1979/80 documentary about his workshop at the American Dance Machine. This is where I started tap dancing with him. vimeo.com/90480282

@@bboross Thank you for turning me on to this wonderful little film! Listening to Paul discuss his technique I am reminded of how versatile tap dancing is, but to the layperson, it is just "old-fashioned". But when you look at the broad spectrum of styles from Bill Robinson to Fred Astaire, Honi Coles to Cookie Cook, Buck and Bubbles, and even the fantastic Hines Brothers, who performed together and yet each employed a different style. Gregory was all about the feet, a true hoofer, while Maurice displayed a more "Draper-esque" way of moving, using more of his whole body. They are all fun to watch!

I love your light sound, hate the heavy tapping that is so common.

Thanks, yes I was brought up in the lighter tap sounds of Paul Draper and Bob Audy, and that is what I prefer, over the heaviness of much of today's tap dancing.

Any suggestions on a good flat shoe? I'm finding that the K360s just don't work with my feet...I've had surgery for bone spurs on my big toes. I need a shoe with stronger support, yet I don't want to go to a double sole to do it.
