Oh... my... WOW! That was, in a word... amazing! I love watching HowTo vids for my reno, but bonus... I found this one all wrapped up in a work of art. Sam working with the music put this vid over the top, especially the percussion on those screw fills. First watch gave me the overview, second watch, I picked up even more. Thanks so much, I will watch this again.

I've heard that, but I've never had any trouble with the stuff. Cracks will show through it, but with ready-mix filler, they don't happen often. Mesh makes less of a bulge than paper tape and it doesn't peel . Paper is nice over large gaps, though.

paper tape is great I use it on banjo it's quick and great for corner s when done properly. I only use mesh tape small repair s but not for corners and butt joints. it doesn't fit perfectly in corners like tape if used then I recommend using a corner tool to even try to get a perfect corners. but great vid this guy is good. what really matters is everything get at least 3 coats detail sand and you always have a great paint job. Then rewarded. everyone has thete on way of doing things the ultra thin mesh tape at home depot is what I use and paper .

Mesh tape is made for factory seams only when you coat with durabond. If you use mesh tape on butt joints they will crack eventually. Reason being the mesh tape on the butt joints does not hide the crack whereas paper does.
@lchitman

yeah.....because the mud bonding through the seam tape mesh doesn't bond at all does it.....yeah, no where near as much strength as that cheap shit paper tape stuff that's the equivalent of notebook paper......,lolz. That paper trash isn't stronger, it's a old school left over that people are still trying to use because they are too ignorant to try modernized components. Hearing some douche bag yelling about how much better paper tape is and using the same trash for inside cornering versus reinforced paper corners and mesh is like hearing a lawn maintenance guy say he is a pro because he uses a rake and push mower instead of a ignorant amateur using a blower and zero turn commercial mower. I do custom drywall and remodeling for a living and I'm always having to cut that shit out of seams and corners because it doesn't have any flexibility for shifting or settling of a home.

+Rob Pearson paper tape isn't perfect. It's just that it's better for certain things than mesh is and vice versa. We all know that houses move and no matter what you do there are going to be cracks. The best we can do is simply minimize problems. If you look into when mesh tape was made, it was made for factory seams with durabond. I've been in construction and drywall a long time and many of the newer finishers weren't around when some of these things were first made and so much of the information as to its intended purpose is not often known. I've never said that paper tape is perfect, it just works better at hiding cracks, and as we both know cracks will happen no matter what we do. It's just that paper tape is better at hiding cracks on seams that are not factory seams. I do mostly new construction so we see what happens with this stuff over time.

The paper tape isn't any better at stopping cracks, it just doesn't show because the paper buckles between the seams.
@OchoaPrideMex4Life

+Rob Pearson depends if you use paper with the all purpose joint compound the green top bucket then it is better than mesh tape. i only use mesh tape when im trying to finish quick and if it is only a room or 2,(so i dont get my bazooka dirty) and patches.2 coats of durabond and plus 3 finish coat to sand the next day....but eather way if you are a good taper you wont have problems with any tape...

You sound like a raving lunatic. Paper tape is, and always will be better. Fiberglass has always been considered the easy way, and more prone to cracking. Learn your trade before you claim to be a drywaller.

Been doing drywall for 25 yrs. If you want a lasting job, prefill your joints with quickset, and set the fiberglass while it's wet. If you don't your flats will suck up inside of 5 years, and butt-joints have a high risk of cracking. For this reason most people think paper tape is better. The problem with paper tape is that in high humidity areas the mud inside the recess will sometimes take days to dry even though the top coat has already dried, this can also cause cracking, hollow flats, and humped flats. So a general rule is in high humidity areas, or when using fiberglass, prefill joints first with quickset, and then first coat with quicket as well.

Mesh tape is for people who cant mud properly, 41 years old, was mudding with my dad at 8. Always preached paper tape, but some guys wipe to much mud out from behind it which caused bubbles. This is why mesh was invented.

Amazing work. Are you using "ready-mix"? If so do you water it down a bit? I'm putting the same amount on my trowel, and the best I can get out of it is about a 2 1/2' pass. And that's workin' it. I've used the stuff you mix yourself. The only problem is it drys quick, (more waste). I'm just a "ham and egger". I'm doing a job for my in-laws and they're driving me crazy.
@lchitman
8 жыл бұрын
You always have to run over the seams a couple of times with the layering of the mud. the first two passes you usually always use mix mud and then use the ready mix over those for a finish coat. the mix mud has a bit more strength to it and shrinks less than ready mixed mud. Ready mix mud cannot be put on too thick because of the inconsistent curing and shrinking, but makes for a better finish coat because it can be shaped and tapered out to avoid shadows and waves when sanding than the mix mud.

paper tape is not stronger, if you mesh tape and fill the bevel with 90 sheetrock or durabond 90 and then light sand and run a 10inch box super strong flats and butts also this can be done in one day, you can get to this level in one day with paper tape sucker.

@jamesbull3313

No mater how good you are are "pinking" you won't pink-plaster a house faster that tape and joint....and I personally don't believe as "clean lines" and flatness than tape and jointing as we all know on site "time is money" 1 downside to tapeing is. the walls/ ceilings aren't as "hard" so dings and dents are alot more prone.

every pro drywall finisher knows to do butts first ,then your flats and angles last.and what are you using scotch tape?use paper,its a natural bond.you should know in every application of paper or your scotch tape you always start from the middle and trowel outward.faster isn't better and less sanding shows in the long run.your overlap method is wrong to begin with. your butt and flats will show and crack every time you do this and your overlap will show every time.

I dont know if this guy is from Europe or USA but anyway, in europe we have lot of harder and more durable drywall boards then in USA (i worked in USA), every drywall is installed on full stainless steel construction - not wood and "better quality" compound. I dont think these things bad... Reason is that in Europe we using in most cases drywall to make remodels, lower ceiling, cutting rooms size etc.. - not for build walls, we in most building from brics, so there is not reason to make "fast fabricates", so yes - If you see it from eyes of American finisher, your right.. If you are from Europe, there is no problem with His settings :)
