Owner here! Was excited to see how you were gonna title this one haha. I appreciate you walking through it with your viewers. I wanted to note that this was the culmination of ideas from other folks like Venture Surplus, Legion Preparedness, and Spiritus with their Upgrade Kit. My only original contributions was adding the Velcro adhesive and getting the outer bungees to work via grommets. My intent was to create a heavier load system that was as comprehensive as Velocity, Haley, or the original Molle Monkey Barrel and Hatch chest rig while still being economically priced. EOD is right, if you decided to piece this together in UCP (I’d recommend rit-dyeing the color of your choice like black or green) you can build this out for closer to $65 scavenging eBay and surplus shops. Lastly, if you add female repair buckles to your rear plate or on the cummerbund, you can use the side straps to click this in directly to your PC like a placard system and it works great.

Thanks for the ideas, I bought a taps a couple years ago from venture for $12 and I've been using it as a "bandolier ". After seeing how you set yours up I might steal some ideas, thanks brother

@Evil9Twin you can see in each of the 4 corners I added female repair buckles. If you use those, they will interface great with any standard h-harness like Wise Men, Spiritus, Haley, Unobtanium, etc

That top row of molle above the mag pockets is for SAW/240 belt pouches, you start weaving the pouches there, then complete the rest in front of the mag pockets. This keeps the mg belt pouches stable, where they'd otherwise be sagging and flopping around if they were just on the front of the mag pockets.

The zippered panel is supported to be for “silent” access. Big ARMY, gotta love um. You can also stick an IOTV, ballistic deltoid panel in the center map pocket, fits perfect and gives you +up IIIA protection.

The 2 biggest issue with the TAPs is 1 it uses a y strap harness when it really needs 2 extra buckles on the side spaced at the top and bottom to stabilize it(that’s why they seem to droop). 2 the TAPs is by far the longest chest rig I’m aware of measuring in at a staggering 27 inches compared to the 9 inches of a micro or the 12 of a 4 mag rig like the Haley. This can prevent access to the pouches you place on the side. Even the onward rig only comes out to 19 inches .

My favorite piece of GI gear, the TAPS. It was definitely an upgrade from the LBV from the BDU days. I can quickly don/doff it from my IOTV. Put all my essentials on it besides what's on my belt regardless of if I'm wearing a PC or not.

Back when I was shooting high volume cheap 5.45 out of AR15s, I like running the TAP as I could stuff 10 mags in it. 2 mags can fit in each far end pocket. You could also stuff a holster or some .308 mags in those side pockets.

Set up a taps in pretty much the same way as this guy recently. Rig definitely is not the comfiest piece of gear, though i suspect that's because i'm a pretty small guy, but for the money laid out I seriously doubt that there are comparably durable and spacious rigs available. Good loaner kit too I would imagine.

@@deadeye5155 Yeah I think it is a little bulky. Even though special forces I'm Isreal do use it, the materials seem on par with some of the top carriers offered in the US. I never looked into seeing if IWI had any input on the design or fabrica- tion because they have some of the top weapons systems but that can be sub- jective.
