I wouldn't risk feeding mice, one bite from the rodent and that gorgeous Stirmi is gone.

+Chris Figueroa Yeah, although she succeded in the hunting, now that I see the video I think the mouse was a bit too big for her. I gave her another mouse some weeks ago and that one was way smaller.

@danielvamu

Basically for the sake of watching the tarantula hunting a bigger prey. I do enjoy it. But yes, I'm aware mice are not an ideal prey for tarantulas. I do feed insects to this T. stirmi 90 % of the time.

Mine was 6" in this video. She molted months ago and she's now 7" or so. Can't wait until she gets huge haha. Sadly, on her last molt she was left with multiple scars. I guess it was because of not high enough humidity. I hope they go away when she molts again!

Awesome video and glad the “T” didn’t get injured! Yes Goliaths eat small rodents in the wild but mainly it is all insects and or small lizards. If you wanna see your tarantula eat something big just get a hornworm. Don’t risk a mouse and pinky mouse may lead to bad molting and other problems. Stick to large insects. But awesome video truly!!

This is why you don't feed tarantulas live mice. The mouse bit the tarantula's leg and stayed clamped on - that tarantula will lose its leg at the least, but if it had been freshly moulted, it could have bled out. If it had been bit on its body or head, the mouse would have killed it. Why put your T in such danger?

To be honest I would be worried about the mouse hurting the spider. That Goliath does not look full grown yet.

feeding mammals to spiders is not a fantastic idea, the high calcium hardens there skin to the point it become difficult to shed out, this can, in some cases cause increased stress during molts or an inability to molt. causing them to literally be crushed by there own skin.

ok cool. Im thinking to get a T stirmi myself. I've been keeping LP salmon pinks for a while but never had 1 of these. how often do they moult?
@danielvamu

aj M I have been keeping my T. stirmi only for a few months, so I can't really answer the question properly. I would say though that they don't moult as often as L. parahybana but still they are not a slow growth species.

aj M Yeah, they need quite a lot of humidity. My stirmi recently moulted and she had some problems because the humidity in her enclosure wasn't high enough. I'm from Barcelona, Spain.
