Scarp 1 is a palace for one - I've known tents described as 2-person to give similar space. By all means swap the guys out for thicker ones, but lengthen them by a few feet at the same time - I found the provided ones too short for varied UK hill terrain.

Yes absolutely agree I think they short for UK too. Thank you for watching

Tony, you’ve adjusters on the floor coming off of the innerof my scarp 1 (2022) that you can use to maximise the porch area and I am able to bring the fly walls flush with floor by tightening vertical adjuster. Not sure you have them on older models judging from this video. 👍🏼

I don't think I can make pole loop thing shorter its end of strap thing I think and not convinced I can pull both sides to ground one other poster says others noticed that too. The making less space internally thing you talk about that is a new feature and not on thse. Thanks for commenting and hopefully we can pitch ours together one day to compare old and new :)

The vestibule are adjustable on each side.. The Clip and bungy cord by the doors are so you can slide the door up, clip it in place and create more ventilation..

Ah ok those bungee at bottom if door and clip just above. Great thanks. Does yours pitch to the ground? Mine seems to be off the ground by several inches and Chris Townsends scarp 1 also doesn't go to the ground at the zip area. Thank you for popping by.

@@TonyHobbs There is a gap, but i can get it equal on each side. It has never been a problem, I very rarely have any condensation problems which is a plus . I have added some cordage to the loop on the middle of the panels. i peg these down which helps keep the gap under control in the wind.. (Scarp 1) ..all the best ..

Excellent video tony, it’s nice to see the differences. The bit of bungee is for hooking on to the hook to lift the fly for extra ventilation. If you use it you’ll need to loosen the floor strap first.

Floor strap you mean the bit that you pull using line lock? Not the strap running under tent? I'll take another look another camp soon ish thank you for watching and commenting

@@TonyHobbs Hi Tony, yes the bit that pulls down and tightens the fly near the doors, once you loosen that, you can then hook the bungee onto the little hook to lift the fly for better ventilation, you can see it in use my video here at the 3 min mark kzitem.info/news/bejne/loR80o2QrJZ9hG0

A key difference I’d have thought would be how well each tent deals with strong winds. As the 2 is so much wider and taller, but has the same number of poles and guys, its bulk must surely be more susceptible to wind than the 1 ?
@TonyHobbs

I'd agree the 2 would catch more wind

Hi Tony, There are some materials like canvas that hold some warmth. How well do tents like those retain body heat? Or is it mostly about blocking wind?
@TonyHobbs
Жыл бұрын
I'm thinking it's about wind more. If we build a building on North Pole with double glazing but zero heat whilst it might not be as cold inside I bet it would be freezing still lol and we'd be in the same boat as now relying on clothing and sleeping system . So yes canvas or bricks might save some and definitely cut wind but you'd probably still freeze your widget off 😆 So I guess the conclusion is its easier to carry a tent or tarp and block most wind and invest in sleeping bag which is what I did Great comment :)

I see reviews of "4 season" tents like Hilleberg tents that are touted as warmer. Have often wondered just how much difference it makes. Just seems to me that a down quilt with a subzero rating and a Thermarest Xtherm inside a quality bivy would allow body heat to work its magic better than being in a small room.

The overhead shot of the scarp 2 on Tarpents website shows the vestibule definitely smaller on one side to the other so I don't think it was a pitching issue from yourself.

@@TonyHobbs Didn't realise it was a video flythrough of the tent.. it might have been the angle the camera started off at as the right hand side looked smaller then the left but as the video pannd around it didnt - my mistake methinks... so ye... lets agree you pitched it bloody awful..lol - just kidding of course. 😉

@quen7770 ah sorry my brain died lol they are loops for attaching two cross over Poles. Look at the stills photos I added in you'll see crossing Poles they hold them down in position also effectively making it a free standing tent Chris took his off probably to save loose lines tapping on tent mine I left on. I think in all previous videos I have with this I used to poles. They not needed but give extra stability in poor weather
