So are you by passing the preamps in this, you mentioned the Cambridge audio one?

2:00 the formula sound mixers have a little gain attenuation dial at the back that you need a flat head screwdriver to adjust. Turning them should help make the mixer a bit more compatible with high output cartridges and loud pressings

@@remiv6375 I meant on the back next to the input connectors, however I have just checked the manual and it seems I have got this wrong. These screws are only there for the line inputs and not the phono which is surprising as the FF4.2 has these adjustments for the phono as well as the lines

The Taruya has better bass response. The hi-hat on the first record you played sounded more realistic with the Taruya than the VNL. They both sounded very very good and almost similar. Nothing bad with the high output Taruya has. Most average range mixers have low gain. The high output according to Ortofon for example the Concorde mkII DIGITAL, provides 10 mV output voltage, which maximizes the signal-to-noise ratio of the audio being fed to the software, which results in better interpretation of the timecode signal as far as DVS goes. The Taruya is for both analog & DVS playing & use and its output voltage is: 6.5〜12mV (9mV±2.5dB 5cm/sec). Furthermore, a decrease in the reproduction of frequencies where vinyl wear & crackle occur helps to minimize errors in the interpretation of the timecode signal and helps timecoded vinyl records last longer. Thanks for the video. I'm buying the 08Ms!

Depend on the inductance of the coils in the cartridge. To get right sound of the cartridge you have underneath this mixer option to change the capacitance loading of the phono preamp, if the cartridge has lover treble sound. For Taruya you should set to 100pF and for VNL to 300pF.

Appreciate the video thanks a lot. VNL sounds boring, accurate as it advertised which is true but no life in it's sound reproduction and applicable to all models. Shure were accurate and never boring. Taruya is exciting only lacks in high freq detail a bit. Which Cambridge audio preamp you are using? Did you change capacitance on the cambridge audio preamp for Taruya? If so please tell us the mode. Also I request a new video that connect turntables directly to Formula Sound and output directly to the soundcard. Are you using Traktor mixer as a soundcard? If so and if you have a better soundcard please use that. Cheers!

Elite is the only one on the dj cartridge market ever uses naked elliptical diamond first time in history. I am sure that reproduces better detail entire frequency spectrum. If you compare with Taruya what can you say? I have Grado DJ200 they are warm sweet sounding cartridges.

I've compared my taruyas 08 to the vnl's & the taruya's sound way better on vinyl. Warmer & louder in comparison to this video.
@remiv6375

Taruya compresses the signal way way more then the vnl, therefore it seems way louder then any other cartridge. I have equalised all signals so they are equally loud. Warmer sound is just cutting of the high frequencies, to me the Taruya sounded like a old radio. But if you like the Taruya better that’s all that matters.

Taruya specs the output as 9mV±2.5dB 5cm/sec. That is an insane amount of output, even for a DJ cartridge. Certainly the reviews and endorsements of the Taruya cartridges are intriguing and I would be curious to hear one IRL. Not gonna risk $300+ on their blue cartridge for myself though! Maybe someone will do some frequency response measurements on these sometime. That would interesting to see. It's too bad they don't make cartridges with more modest output (e.g. 5-6mV).
