Hey. Dunno how to reach you otherwise. Do you have any notes or a write-up on this game? I'm looking for things that may be helpful/applicable in RTA runs. Thanks a bunch.

Hey, it's great to see someone running it. And you've already shaved a whole minute off your time, nice! I don't have any notes though, sorry. It looks like you're already incorporating a bunch of stuff from the TAS too. Like, one of the biggest accidental discoveries I made was being able to hit the "gravity boss" long before its sprite is on-screen, and you're already doing that. Let me know if you have any questions or ideas though, I'm happy to talk more or look into strats etc. And good luck!

The two things I wanted to ask about specifically, if you had no notes. 1.) Do you know how hitting the gravity dude before he comes up works exactly? It feels somewhat random in my playthroughs. Is it jumping up before the boss actually comes down? I can't even come close to replicating what you did for the lv. 5 gravity guy, either. 2.) For Solo (the guy that shoots missiles in lv. 2 during the slide, and lv. 5 during the ape + dino fight), was there any specific strategy that makes killing him consistent? Level 5 is the one I'm more interested in, cause he causes lots of chaos there if my options don't kill him super fast. If not, then I'll just have to brew something up. Getting to lv. 5 with my usual equipment I use in WR attempts... takes a while, due to despawning enemy drops. Thanks for responding, and thanks for the TAS. Did help a lot in figuring out some RTA movement and basic strats.

For grav boss, honestly I don't understand the technical aspects. The jump shouldn't be necessary, that was just filler until I got to the first frame I could damage it. The Lv 5 version was damageable sooner than the Lv 3 version, and I don't know why. I suspect the 'glitch' might be because its hitbox (but not its sprite) wraps the screen -- but that's speculation. I found that I could hit the boss on every other frame if I alternated ducking/standing and/or left/right facing -- but only semi-reliably. Both of those things are probably implausible for RTA, but might help a bit. I think a good approach for RTA would be to find out where the best horizontal spot is to start, and then mash like hell, maybe with some ducking/standing mashing too. For Solo, his behavior seems fairly random. On lv 2 you can get 2 hits on him before the slide, then kill him when you're heading up into the dark area, and that seems to be a good approach for the least drama. On lv 5 I hit him once early to make him leave before killing him in some downtime later. I tried a few other approaches, like just killing him straight away, but he'd always fly away or create more problems. His behavior is erratic. If you try to hit him on certain frames, he'll teleport away. A few frames later/earlier, you'll hit him. The sliding sword kill on the lv 5 one might be helpful if you can consistently manipulate him into landing, because you can get at least 2 hits in. If I find some time I'll take a closer look into both these things. One last point that might be helpful... the laser shooting mini-boss becomes invincible every time it's hit, for 11 frames. So depending on your mash/rhythm, it might be better to mash slower rather than faster, to get optimal times. The savings might not be worth the effort though.

TAS stands for Tool-Assisted Speedrun. The people who make these kinds of speedruns use external tools to bypass the limits of the original hardware to accomplish things that are impossible to do by any human playing in real time on real hardware. That's right, these things are actually created on a frame by frame basis with sometimes thousands of savestates being used to constantly correct for any mistakes to achieve the best result they can when the recording of all the inputs is played back at real time speed. It's straight up cheating because this method can be used to beat anyone or anything on original hardware.
