Personally i wouldn't change band at all. Death is a pretty accessible gateway to death metal, i don't really think Tasha would like something like Morbid Angel (she would throw away the earphones at the first double bass and blast beat combo, it doesn't sound very friendly in addition to some Slayer style "guitar solos" and satanic recurrent themes). Absolutely no Cannibal Corpse (i hate Cannibal Corpse all around, i'm sure she would refuse to react to it since the main topic of the band is killing-torturing-name some more crap of your choice, or even Deicide. Another band i despise, Anti-Christian shit and awful vocals). Since lyrics are an important thing to her, i believe Death is the best choice for the moment, in my humble opinion. Death is always the best choice, dammit!

The anger in metal, punk, and hip hop for that matter was the fuel that brought these genres to the mainstream and protected it from censorship. It was labeled as satanic and fought in the highest courts routinely and still is. Songs like pull the plug are an example of how metal was telling stories that needed to be told and doing it intelligently. If you're angry with a valid cause, you're not helping your cause if you're stupid and/or directingthat angerat the wrong people. These issues came out of artists because the message was powerful enough to spark an inferno. If artists aren't allowed to use real issues to write real music, you end up with fake art. Today's metal lacks real issues. People wear the metal costume to tap into the metal market, but they sing about weak crap like girlfriends and social media. Some other pissed off metal groups that have real messages that come to mind are sepultura, and testament off the top of my head. If the many sub genre's of metal take me too far from it i can always go back to black sabbath. Props to this girl for being open minded enough to listen to the music and the words before writing off the genre completely. If you truly love music open mindedness will get you everywhere...well done

This continues to prove my theory that there are gender and racial difference among us with regards to music. I've been into Thrash & Death Metal since day one and I've been to hundreds of concerts. In all that time, I do not think I saw a single black female ever. People that listen to violent hardcore metal are the most accepting people you'll ever meet so it isn't like any of us discriminate against anyone yet no black females. We didn't stand at the door saying "you can't come in". Other things I've noticed - Native American females love Slayer and I often found myself tossed about by these women right down there in the pit. Those girls throw down! I also saw Hispanic females at regular metal shows like Iron Maiden but also for bands like Death and Kreator.

Not the best metal song of all time. The best Death Metal band of all time. That was their early stuff...when death metal was just getting started. Death's later stuff has very deep lyrics about all types of subjects...like 1000 eyes...referring to government surveillance of the people, or Symbolic, about that moment where everything changed from childhood and innocence to adulthood, and the wish to have that innocence back instead of just the memories. Chuck Schuldiner, the vocalist, lead guitarist, and songwriter was a musical genius. He was also an accomplished lyricist after the Leprosy album, using a lot of allegories and metaphors. Human, Spiritual Healing,Individual Thought Patterns, Symbolic, and The Sound of Perseverance are ALL masterpieces. Try Misanthrope, Symbolic, The Philosopher, Scavenger Human Sorrow , Lack Of Comprehension for some deeper lyrics and more polished, refined music. As for the vocals, you have to go into it realizing that death metal, or pretty much all metal is more focused on the music. The music tells the story, or sets the mood / atmosphere. The vocals are more of a percussive instrument to deliver the lyrics that is set by the mood of the music. It is another instrument, a blunt one used for delivery, and all the melody is wrapped up in the instrumentation. The voice isn't supposed to be pretty and melodic. Having a Beyonce- esque delivery in a death metal song about a subject with no beauty would in fact ruin the whole intended purpose of painting the atmosphere with instrumentation. Metal is instrument focused, whereas pop, radio music, hip- hop, the music is looped, in the background, and the voice/ lyrics are the focus. Hope that helps you to gain an ear for harsh vocals, knowing their purpose.
