Petrol-diesel prices are on the rise.
The owners are not able to make a profit by running the bus.
There is no guarantee that prices will come down in the coming days.
That is why the central government is encouraging alternative systems.
Electric buses have already started plying in Kolkata.
The state government made a huge leap in that direction.
The center is going to get 2000 electric buses for FEM-2 (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid & Electric Vehicles in India) project.
Tata Motors has been cited for the most part.
Ashok Leyland got the rest.
At present 65 out of 60 buses run in Kolkata under FEM-1 project.
The rest takes dighar tourism.
Construction company Tata Motors.
The cost of purchasing buses for this project was borne jointly by the Center and the States.
However, these buses will be operated on Opex (operational expenditure) or gross cost model.
This is to reduce the cost burden of the states.
So that the burden of huge debt does not burden them when they go to buy electric bus.
It is learned that the center will pay 80 per cent of the bus price at the rate of 20 per cent for three years.
The construction company will be responsible for running and maintaining the bus.
The state will also pay the manufacturer per kilometer to run the bus.
The center has guaranteed income in the contract.
CESL (convergence energy services limited) of the Union Ministry of Power plans to launch a total of 5,450 electric buses on the roads of Bangalore, Delhi, Surat, Hyderabad and Kolkata.
The purpose is to reduce pollution and alternative fuels.
