Tateshina Senkyo Toshi is a high-class highland resort that began development around 1969.
At the time of development, the central area was aimed at families, and included an astronomical observation building designed by Kisho Kurokawa, Furoen Garden, Marco Polo, and tennis courts, as well as many private villas.
Also, in the area at the entrance to the Shikamagawa Forest Road, there is a guest house called "Andersen,'' also designed by Kisho Kurokawa, and a training facility called "Bay Forum,'' which is equipped with a rain play area and a heated pool.
In the 1980s, facilities for young people were expanded, including the lobby "Sausalito'', restaurant "Bay Topaz'', heated pool, large public bath, sauna, training gym, "Annex Hotel'', "Eliabay Hotel'', and cottage-style villa "Bion the bay" eight buildings, Tateshina Associates Ski Resort, etc. were constructed.
Although private villas and other facilities are still in use today, many of the facilities that were built in the early stages of development have fallen into disrepair and decay, and even relatively new facilities are notable for remaining closed.
