Thank you for a tutorial! A very handy method! As a former Graphic designer and a long term photoshop user (I am working on tattoos mostly in photoshop) I can share a few useful tips (not only for stencil workflow but the PS in general). It is more efective to work the non destructive way: - using masks (bottom right corner under layer panel) instead of eraser is more flexible. You can easily and fast hide/unhide layer parts by painting on a mask and changing brush colour (shortcut: X) - use adjustment layers (also bottom right corner) instead of these ones from bar above. They are literally the same thing but working the non destructive way, and you can use them the same way as masks (and you can duplifiyng them, moving trough layers etc. and you can choose them to influence only the one layer below or all layers below) -If you had layer + adjustment layers on top and want to add for example find edges filter on to of it: group it and then convert whole group to smart object. You can then add the filter non destructively on it and if you need to make some adjustements on each layer in the group just enter the smart object (by clicking the layer thumbnail on layers panel) and then you can edit whole group into a smart object mode (smart object opens in a separate file window. You must save it (CTRL+S) to see the changes in original file). Maybe sounds complicated but believe me it is most professional way to do things. When you need to do some small adjustments on your stencil/project or whatever afterwards it is MASSIVE life/time/stress saver Greetings from Poland mates!

Thanks for the very useful tips. I learnt photoshop when I was working as a professional designer back when it was v3 - over 30 years ago now. Only 1 undo, no filters beyond sharpen and blur etc etc! We had to do every edit in a 'destructive way' in the same way that there's no 'undo' when working with analog recoding systems. I think that's why - over the years - I have developed a destructive workflow. The benefits of this is that it forces confident decisions and keeps file sizes and save times down etc. But with the computing power we have at our fingertips these days it's actually pretty redundant. I recently returned to using PS after a few years of using Affinity (which has a naturally modern, non destructive approach) and I've found myself leaning more towards your suggestions of 'non-destructive' editing more and more. And you're absolutely right, it does offer far more flexibility. I now also add a 'comp' & 'stencil' layer to the top of my layer stack so that wherever I am in the tattoo process I can quickly reference the entire design with a single click. I think the important take away here is to always keep learning and constantly updating your skillset as the tools evolve. Thanks for your input! -p

Can i ask something?? I have been using my pj 773 for 5 years without any issues but then in a month there is something wrong which I do not understand. I both use Spirit A4 and Us legal sizes. Especially when i use Us ones, while the paper is being printed from brother, it is stopped being printing as if it is already finished its work. Sometimes it continues to print when i add another paper to brother sometimes only stopped working. I was searching on youtube to figure out then i came across ur video and then realized that after formating my Mac, there is no advanced/ basic options on my photoshop even the driver is already downloaded. Tbh im not sure whether the issue comes from this or not. But at least can you help me to how i can find the advanced settings. I use the latest Psd 2023 for sure!

Your printing problem is probably a faulty power supply cable. I’ve had the same issue and a new/repaired psu fixed my problem. Your loss of options would appear to be something to do with changes to the Mac operating system. I currently have the same issue on my Mac running Ventura. I will reach out to brother and request an update to the driver. Watch this space - p

@@ThatTattooShow I have just recently changed my usb cable connecting to my Mac, i dont never connect via Wifi incase of anything, and my power supply was changed as well but the issue still continues. I went to the Brother service in Turkey whether the issue comes from the roller inside the machine but they said no. To be honest, in here even the Brother service does not understand because not so much people uses this machines for tattoo stencil. And even I asked to whom they use for it, they do not have Mac only Windows. And i realized that, yesterday, i tried to print stencil using Us legal with Windows, no issues at all. Thats why im meddling with my Mac then came across that my Printing Settings tools not working when i tried to open in my Macintosh Hd. Even the p-touch update software doesn not answer i guess. Thats why i tried to re download the driver again on Brother website but when i try, it still does not ask me machine’s serial number yet says it’s downloaded. My Mac’s is 11.7.6 (im downloading for mac 11) Sorry for writing too much, but i do not know what to do 🥹

Finding difficulty printing a full stencil on legal 8.5x14. Any thoughts on getting it to print at larger scale?

It really depends on the software you’re using as it the design software that controls the print output. So try a different design software for final print output would be my first thought 👍

Better suggestion: buy any eco tank Inkjet printer and put Inkjet Stencil Ink instead of normal printer ink and that's all. You're welcome 😊

Aye until you want to got travelling. Or think dries up and wrecks the print heads. We’ve been looking into the pros and cons for both options. As a studio only set up the ink jet is ok, but for convenience, ease of travelling, less Maintenance and the ease of set up the brother printer trumps it tbh. We will do a video about it.

@@ThatTattooShow I'm using an Epson mono eco tank printer with Inkjet Stencil ink. During the covid-19 1st wave in India the shop was closed for about 3 months. After 3 month the ink was fine. Printer is Still working as it was new.

@@ThatTattooShow and one more important factor that is cost. Here in India eco tank printer setup costs around half of the price of genuine brother stencil printer (that is approx 540 USD)

In the Uk the initial set up cost isn’t that far off the price of the brother printer. If you buy the ink, the stencil paper, transfer fluid and the recommended printer it works out roughly the same. Well the ones I’ve looked at anyway. But I think it’s a pros and cons thing really, for me there’s to many cons to using the ink jet stencil as apposed to the brother printer that suits my needs. I’ve been using the same printer for about 8 years now and haven’t had a single problem with it. My only expense is buying stencil paper. (Chris)

I disagree and so do all the tattooists who use brother printers everyday. Yes it does have a learning curve. But Sh*t? When so many others can use it so easily maybe you should be asking yourself the question ‘am I the problem?’
