Remember doing a school trip from Whakatane to here while I was at primary. Must've been late 70's. Thoroughly enjoyed it and have never forgotten the experience. Was devastated when I moved back to the Bay (Tauranga) in mid 1999 to find it no longer as it was. Would love for it to be restored as it was. Great memories for me, but sadly my son and soon to be granddaughter won't share those with me.

I spent most of my holidays in that village in the 80's as my Opa worked as a volunteer do leather work in the tack shed next to the blacksmith and my brother and I would help him take people for rides in the horse and cart around the village. My grandfather is John van Boven and he died in 1997. Great memories with him there.

Wow! My uncle is in this (blacksmith) at 7:23 - he would've been 30 then! Used to love going there back in the day! So sad at what it has become nowadays.

Makes me so angry to see what the greed of people that moved into our town has done to all the bloody work we did all those years ago.
