I'm glad you like your 605, I like mine too. I wouldn't necessarily call it a budget gun, it's not lacking anything that a more expensive revolver is, but it's made with cheaper labor and imported. I've put the fit and finish of my Taurus 605 & 856 against my S&Ws, and sadly the S&Ws lost, with the exception of my Performance Center 637. So I say go ahead and buy that $45 grip. I like the Taurus grips so mine will stay where they are, but Altamont has so many nice grips that will dress up that 605 say go for it Life's too short. You customized the finished now go out there and get a nice grip for it.

And rebuilt one my brother .44ccal blackpower revolver about 4 times . Know redid his 500mosberg and did reblue on one of his barrels for touch up work. Also clean up a m44. That was rough on cycling the bolt. Little bit of polishing and oil will always make gun better.

dude.. you have a dremel...make your own grips. That way you can make them fit you just right. It can't possibly be all that difficult. hell if I had a same gun to go by I'm sure I could do it. Finding the right wood might be the hardest part. Now, take a polishing tip and some good metal polish (I like Simichrome) and polish that thing up further. Why not? I'm still not loving the bobbed hammer, while concede that it probably makes it a better carry weapon, it just kinda ruins the looks for me.

The thought did cross my mind to make my own. As a novelty, I'm kicking around the idea of using bone or stag antler. I might just polish it further as well! The bobbed hammer wasn't a visual thing to me. I want it to unholster snag free.

I get the bobbed hammer for practical reasons, but I'm old, I like old school, the bobbed hammer just don't look right to me. I think you should make a set from wood first. Any hardwood will do. If you want them to last a long time, good oak will work, but it's difficult to work with. Why not antler or bone? If dried out, it is very brittle, very easy to break. This is not good when trying to make them, nor when on the gun. However I can envision a stag handle with the base of the horn at the base of the grip, that would make it not slip out of your hand. Go for a Bisley style grip. They tent to work best, especially for us guys with big hands. Especially good for guns with a major recoil, they don't bite your hand as much. Besides, its' going to take a very large antler or bone to make a pair of grips that match. You might consider this, take some cardboard, remove the grips from the revolver, spray the grip area with ... oh WD or even cooking spray. Soak the cardboard in water well, until it's very soft and pliable. Squeeze out as much water as you can. Form grips on the revolver out of the cardboard. You can have it cut into strips if that's easier for you. once you get it about where you want it, remove from the revolver and dry it slowly in an oven just on warm. You will have a pair of grips from which to make the real grips. You could also use molding clay, like the kind that is pliable when heated but goes hard when cool, or you could also use that other kind of clay that is really plastic but you fire it in an oven rather than a kiln. They could actually be servicable grips but more than likely you'd want to use them just as a template for the wood grips you'll make, or bone of whatever you wind up using. There are other ways to go as well. If you can make a viable template, you could even sand cast metal grips. That thing would look tits with some polished brass grips on it. There's a vid on here of exactly how to do that,One of the guys I follow regularly. He made them for something akin to a Webley go here. . kzitem.info/news/bejne/tJx6zmyfcJSSiY4
