So i recently purchased the Defender 605 with the tungsten wood grips. Absolutely beautiful revolver. Took it to the range 3 times and did general cleaning twice. No problems and then all of the sudden the ejector rod is getting stuck and then the cylinder wont release. I just sent it back to Taurus for a warranty claim. Hoping its an easy fix but its a bummer to have issues after only about 150 rounds through it.

I’m on the fence of getting me a 856 is quality control still bad on this gun?
@cliffhouser9138

The first time I sent my 905 back for light primer strikes it cost me $50 for shipping and Taurus said they shot 10 rounds and found no problem. The next 3 times I sent it in they sent me a free shipping label. Finally after 4 returns to the factory, I have fired over 500 rounds and every round has gone bang. In the last year I have sent 2 different Charter Arms, a Kimber, and a Smith and Wesson performance center in for repairs. I'm disappointed in the Quality control of all gun manufacturers.

Machines are prone to defects and malfunctions. Just the nature of the game. My judgement of a manufacturer, however, is directly tied to how they deal with the issues their products have and how they treat their customers. Taurus isn't the worst in the world, (and I have some very functional Taurus firearms), but S&W and Ruger are at a higher level with both craftsmanship, (obviously), and more importantly, customer care. My 856 has been cracking off rounds consistently since I got it back, but only time and many rounds will tell the whole story.

I have a 605 steel. I have had it back to Taurus twice. I've had it for 20 years, and I bought it used at a gun show. Once for a forcing cone adjustment and once for a broken sear. But I run Hot 357 Magnum loads through it, and I have shot it a lot. It took about 6 weeks each time. The last time they shipped it back to me, I got no notification is was coming. It came in a fed ex box and they didn't require a signature or anything. I just found it sitting on my front porch when I got home from work! Normally your hand gun in its life in self defense had only say been fired three to six times probably or more in it's life and yes I know you fire more times than that in target practice but never 700 round's it's not a toy your life depends on it, he's your friend he keeps you alive wright so treat him as much with kindness.

Very interesting. How'd that turn out? I had the same problems with my brand new 856ULCH. Sent back to Taurus with a crooked barrel. Paperwork said they adjusted the barrel, but it's no different. Then started getting light strikes, so sent it to Bainbridge again. Came back with paperwork that just said "replaced cylinder". They certainly did, and it was covered with surface rust. I just light sanded and oiled it up vs sending it back. Now, I'm getting the same result you are: This was my best shooting small gun, and now it's not an accurate shooter at all. I also noticed that the trigger action is not as smooth as it was (might just need to wear that cylinder down some). At any rate, I reached the same conclusion you did, in that I don't know if I'll ever shoot that gun again.

I just got my 856 back for the 3rd time for light primerstrikes. First time they said they replaced the hammer spring. I had just done that before sending it back lol. I put Wolff springs in and although the trigger was alot better, I still had light primer strikes. Second time, they said they "adjusted the cylinder axis", which is a fancybway of saying they whacked it with a special hammer. I still had the same problems. Now, Taurus says that they replaced the firing pin and hand. I don't know what the "hand" is, so I will do some research. I'm going to the range tomorrow. We will see how it goes, but I will never trust my life with it no matter how many rounds go through it. I'm going to try and trade it for some 357 ammo at the next gun show.

Whenever there's a "light primer strike" complaint, they always put a heavy ass hammer spring in it. Sometimes, light strikes are caused by poor fitment, excess friction, bent internals. If your hammer is scratched up, it's hitting the frame, causing light primer strikes. Take it to a smith, I did a trigger job, added reduced power springs, my 856 runs like butter.

And leave the heavier 158 grainers for the steel 3"barrels & up. I've had my Lil 605 poly going on better part of 6yrs now and never had any issues with it. In which I acquired from a pawn shop pick up at one Hella deal. Hey, thanks for watching! I think the steel 605 is probably a decent gun, and would be a good .38 special shooter. But the 605 poly protector is just not built like it should be. If you ONLY intended on carrying it in a bag or something and not really shooting it, I can see how it would be useful. But even then, you need to regularly shoot a gun that you carry, and that one will wear out before long. Now, the 856 is another story, and overall is a decent option. That said, you can get a S&W used for just a few dollars more and that would be a much better and safer option.

Taurus appears to be all over the place when it comes to quality control; some peeps hate them because of experiences like yours, but my own cautious appreciation is based on having only one of their guns that runs well. I have the 856 and I prefer this over my S&W 642. I know, I know: hate. This particular Taurus is just better for me; the 642 is noticeably smaller, but I carry the 856 well enough. I've run maybe 300 rounds through it with absolutely no problems, and currently have a laser grip on it. I'd LIKE to get the 856 Defender (3" barrel) but am struggling with the idea of getting a gun that serves no real purpose for me, other than just a carry replacement for the 856 I already carry. Reviews like yours really do influence fence-sitters like me. Good luck with your guns.

You stated that Taurus said they fired 357 magnum 158 grain, But a Taurus 856 is a 38 special and can't fire 357 rounds. I would either contact them by phone and read that to them and ask them how in the hell did they fire 357's out of that 38 special. Then I'd seek out a gun smith and have it looked at. also I can't state it enough about the Galloway spring kits. there's a video on You Tube to walk you through it. I'm ordering my spring kit at the beginning of the month as I only get paid once a month. I really like your grips on that, I put some Pachmayr Renegade rosewood grips on mine. @@thebluesrockers it's not uncommon to create a problem with light primer strikes when you start installing aftermarket spring kits intended to lessen trigger pull. What they're doing is using a spring with less inherent tension to make the trigger easier to squeeze. In turn, that sometimes causes insufficient spring tension for the hammer to do it's job. I have installed a couple of Galloway kits in revolvers, but they were in guns I don't use for any defensive purposes. So, if it doesn't "go bang", worst case is I miss a big buck or something. No doubt, with my Taurus Model 44, that kit improved trigger feel. Bit I'm not Yosemite Sam and I don't carry that gun. I hunt with it. I installed one of their kits in my LCP 2 and didn't notice any difference at all. I discuss that in one of my LCP videos.

@@johnnyshootsalot Just look on the website lol Are you serious? 856 is a .38 special. I can’t trust your video now 😂

@Deleted yep the 856 is indeed a 38 special, like I very clearly said only 17 seconds into this video. And the 605 is a 357 magnum. Did you actually watch this or just trying to shitpost?...

My problem lies more with FLEET FARM THAN WITH TAURUS, as far as I am concerned NEITHER COMPANY IS CUSTOMER ORIENTED,,, THEY ONLY SERVE THEMSELVES PERIOD AND WILL NOT HO OUT OF THE WAY TO SERVE THE PUBLIC!!!!!!!!

Was considering a Taurus 605 2“ due to the price. Gonna spend a little more. Seeing too many of these warranty vids. And I always wonder if some mfrs deliberately screw up your gun if it gets sent in for warranty as it's money out of their pocket or "it gets lost in the system" or "work on it has already been completed" as code for "...this is to make sure you don't try send anything back in again"

Anyone tried to shoot Armscor .38 ammo with 856? I had a lot of dudes using them, however they shoot well in my S&W Airweight

I had bunch of misfires with my Taurus, however when I loaded the one which misfired in S&W they fired. Do you think it’s a Taurus problem or maybe try different ammo?

I have been having a high rate of misfires with Armscor .38 in my 856. Shot 600 rounds of it, and every box had about 25-30 percent misfire. Always when triggered DA. Primers show a dent but I can fire them SA in same gun. All other brands I've used-Winchester, Fiocci, CCI and Aguila have fired with no issues.

What is the wood grip on your 856? Shitty deal

The grip is actually really nice. It's the Taurus Altamont grip. I got it from their online store.

Bought an 856 at FLEET FARM IN MINNESOTA GOT IT HOME AND WHILE CLEANING I SAW THAT THE BARREL WAS PITTED SENT IT BACK TO TAURUS AND THEY SAID THEY REPLACED THE BARREL, WELL WHEN I GOT IT BACK. SND CLEANED IT I SAW THE SAME PITTING SO THEY DID NOT REPLACE THE BARREL AND I THINK THEY PROBABLY JUST CLEANED IT AND SENT IT BACK , I am an old dude who spent time as a MEDIC IN VIETNAM AND I WILL NEVER NEVER BY TAURUS!!!

They've improved in a lot of ways over the last decade, but personally, I feel like they've still got some work to do. Particularly, in the customer service department. I don't think they value their customers in the way that one would expect from a firearm manufacturer.

Just because your particular guns work right doesn't mean Johnny is lying about his experiences. All gun companies occasionally make lemons.

@@johnnyshootsalot Yeah, I guess you are right, it would suck if it was really needed and it didn't work. New Idea, sell it to a gunsmithing student. My gunsmith love getting a hold of non working guns when he was a student.
