First of all, GREAT video! I am a retired police officer and my conceal carry gun is the SCCY CPX-2. I have not had any problems out of it. I qualified with it just last week on a standard law enforcement course. The course consist of distances 25, 15, 7, and 3 yards. 50 rounds. (If I qualify annually with this course, I get the enhanced license, just means I can carry where others can not ie. school campus, government buildings, ect.) But anyway, I scored a 48 out of 50. I threw 2 from the 25 yard line. The SCCY is a decent little firearm for the price. The only real issues I had while qualifying was during the process of quick un-holstering, I would hit the magazine release and it would drop down and fail to feed. This is just from a lack of practice and large hands. If you are not proficient with firearms, I suggest the double-action for most people for conceal carry. The reason why is unlike the "safe-action" trigger, you have to deliberately pull the trigger to fire. This would keep from firing the weapon by mistake. Well, that is my two cents worth. Again great video!

I have had my G2 for 4 months now and carrying it every day for the past 3 months. I take it to the range a couple times a month and have over 500 rounds through it and it has never failed me. I love the G2 and the trigger is not a problem with me (now that I am used to it). The trigger is just a bit gritty, but I only notice that on the very first shot. @John Smith...Really? "Better" than 100% reliability? Which gun is better than that? Better than accuracy easily equal to the task of self defense (it is NOT a competition target gun, admittedly) And, what is better than LOTS of practice paid for by the money I saved on the gun? I could spend more for another gun which has a name on it no one ever sees (CONCEALED carry, get it?) but WHY? So, if you can answer that question, with specificity, I would appreciate it.

My two cents: Being a Certified Firearms Safety Instructor, I am fortunate to be able to inspect and test a lot of pistols and long guns. I have owned every gun I test, and I have carried every Pistol I have owned. Good looks are in the eye of the beholder. Reliability, on the other hand, is dependent on the internals of any gun. Cheap round wire springs will jump over flanges and lock up the pistol. Loose semi auto bolts can cause chatter marks inside bolt covers. Thin metal trigger rods can flex and cause failure to fire. I have owned both of these pistols. The only drawback of the SCCY is the polymer frame. They sometimes can crack by one of the mounting pins. SCCY is exceptional on replacing broken parts and talk you through replacing parts. The big drawback of the Taurus PT111 is the recoil spring assembly. The round spring tends to jump over the flange and lock the pistol up or cause failure to go into battery. I owned two of these pistols and both failed. Repair took over a month on each one where as SCCY sent me the replacement part, (slide lock lever) and one of their gunsmiths talked me through the replacement procedure.

Jenna: I have not owned one nor ever shot one. The most important thing about any "gun" is what it's going to be used for and how it fits in the shooters hand. If it is not comfortable, shots on target will be all over the place. Taurus machining is top notch. Some of the parts used in the internals are not the best. Any pistol that uses a round wire recoil spring is usually problematic. Flat wire compression springs do not jump wrap over wrap.

Love my Sccy CPX-2. It's like an 11-round double action revolver that you can pocket carry safely. The Taurus is probably the better shooting pistol but with the DAO trigger the SCCY is probably the safer pistol and doesn't need a manual safety. These are pretty snappy in 9mm, .380 might be a better choice.

I have the g2. Had a few problems. 1 it doesn't like aluminum case ammo. It stove pipes it. 2 the screw to the back site walked out and was lost. It is a special screw you can only get from Taurus. 3 I had problems with the lock built into the frame. This is related to the rear site issue. The rear site holds a pin that positions the lock. When I lost the rear sight I lost the pin. Found out shooting later when mid cycle the frame lock engaged. I believe that is a common problem and that is why the lock has been eliminated on the latest version, the g2c. Beyond that I've put 500-600 rounds through it. We are leaning G2C due to several factors including price, capacity, ease of function (at least when we shot a few different ones with our limited experience it seemed comfortable), safety and although many reviews call out the long take-up we actually thought if we ever need to actually point and shoot at a person in a self-defense situation we want to be sure.

loved my Sccy, sold it and an Sd9ve to get a g19. the sccy was easy to conceal and super light. it shot all kinds of ammo. the ejector broke on mines and it's easy to short stroke it. for the price point it still can't be beat. thinking about the black and white one

Fantastic review and comparison! Can't speak to to SCCY but I love my G2. I actually like the trigger. Adjusted to it right away. was in the market for a full size 9mm and since I like the PT111 G2 so much I did a lot of research and thought I'd give the Taurus PT809 a try. I'm so glad I did. What a great gun that is as well! I really believe it's not the same old Taurus. The new management has really stepped up their game over the last few years to turn that business around. I now own Taurus firearms (PT111, PT809, TCP, Curve) and would trust my life to every one of them. They all run flawlessly.

Travis thank you for posting this video. I just purchased a PT111 G2. It hasn't arrived yet but i think I made the better choice. I had researched the CPX2, Glock 26 and the G2 and when it came down to choices the G2 won and for many of the same reasons you mentioned. For the money the G2 is a better deal for a similar product to the Glock and the same warrantee.

Own the Taurus, never fired the SCCY. Upgraded the sights to Fiber Optic and Recoil Spring assembly from Lakeline. Not because I had to, never had an issue. It is recommended, and I notice a smoother shot with the Recoil and guide rod. Fiber optic is a brighter sight for sure. I have 600+ rounds of cheap ammo up through expensive self defense, not one hick-up. Very happy so far..

I own more expensive guns glocks beretta sig and others but none are more reliable than my Taurus g2c and g3.my Taurus g2c has over 4500 rounds through it no malfunctions what so ever using all kinds of different ammunition. having owned multiple guns in both models. The g2 is the 100% better gun...it has a better trigger, more user friendly in the cleaning department and just much more shootable. The sccy guns I had where 1 cpx1 and a cpx2 and both plagues immediately by feeding issues with several types of ammo which led me to believe it was mag related. After several go arounds with cs with sccy and other mags seny...still quite a few issues feeding. I know people love these little guns but the sccy feels extremely bulky in the hand and they are light and makes for a very snappy little gun. The glock like design of the g2 makes it handle hot 9mm loads better and just shoots good. Unlike the sccy, the doublestack design doesn't affect how well it grips without excess bulkiness. Taurus pt111 g2 for me all day.
@adamjinkz6742

Mine also had the same framepin issue. They walked out every few mags it seems. I know alot of people like those long Dao triggers but the sccy is uncomfortable. The g2 has a nice single action reset that is really nice.

It is unacceptable that SCCY has not yet resolved their issues. I do believe they have changed their barrel design and feeding ramps slightly after receiving a new barrel and slide from SCCY. Seems to have addressed the issues.
@adamjinkz6742
7 жыл бұрын
travisp11 I had received 2 new slide assemblies for each and still had the issue...alot of the feeding issues resulted in the next round to feed nose diving in the mag. I would tweak mags and fix for awhile. I just hate tinkering with guns like that. the g2 I can throw my 18 or 20 round sig 226 mag in it and feed 100% and even lock back on last round. I carry the g2 over my mp9 or glocks. it's as reliable as them and if shit hits the fan i want to lose a 200 dollar gun to police for a few moths vs my custom glock 26 or vtac mp lol.

I bought my Taurus Millennium PT111 G2 for $199. at Cabellas in Verdi NV., in June. Shot it twice. Not one issue whatsoever. Shot 115 Federal, Winchester, and 135 Federal Hydro shock. About 140 rounds through it.. All fine. I took it out to the outdoor range in Spanish Springs a couple of weeks ago. When I took it out of my bag, I noticed something weird- the magazine release and the 1/16" rod- torsion retaining spring simply fell out of the gun. A friend and I tried to re-install it.. seemed like we were successful at first, but it just fell out again. I took it back to Cabellas, who told me they were going to send it back, and to expect it to take four weeks! I called Taurus, and they informed me that the repair involves installing a new "oversized part." And, she said it would take SIX weeks, and asked if I would 'please bear with us.' A really good gun, with a possible deal breaking design flaw. I'll test it when it is returned. Any issues beyond that will prompt me to simply find another EDC option.

Have a SCCY CPX1 in FDE with a blued slide, a CPX2 in Black with a stainless slide, a Taurus 24/7 G2 in 45ACP, and a Taurus Slim 709. Love em all! Have never had problems with Taurus pistols or revolvers....have two Judges and a Poly Public Defender, and all have worked just fine. One problem I have with your video, is that both the CPX 1 and CPX2 DO have adjustable sights! Although, granted, for windage only, and NOT for elevation. My Taurus Slim is the 709FS model, has fixed sights, but does just fine at distances suitable for social purposes. All in all though, great review vid!

They are adjustable but not easily, I should have made that more clear in the video. The G2 has sights that can be adjusted with a small screwdriver but the CPX2 would take a tiny allen wrench. I will make my final decision between the SCCY G2 and Ruger SR9s after I go to the rental range in a couple weeks. I was originally leaning toward the G2 and it sounds very reliable but in the event you have to send it back to Taurus you have to pay your own shipping to send it all the way to Brazil and it could be months before you get it back. The SCCY is less attractive but American made and also comes with the lifetime warranty. And the Ruger is supposedly the highest quality and also comes with a warranty.
@travisp11
7 жыл бұрын
AttentionJunkie I'd recommend the Ruger simply because I have range tested all three. Yeah, if sending the gun in and waiting weeks or months for a return will be an issue than by all means consider the other two pistols. I can no longer recommend the SCCY simply because it has not proven itself reliable as time of ownership has passed.
@UniteForgetLeftRight

AttentionJunkie The only other subcompact pistol that I have owned was a Taurus 738 but I did get a chance to borrow and range test a Colt Mustang XSP in .380 and it was solid, and surprisingly comfortable for such a small gun. Avoid the Kimber Solo Carry as it is ammo picky.

I'm actually trying to decide which to buy. So far, I am leaning toward just buying both, because trying to decide is beginning to make my brain smoke. I had one of the earlier versions of the Taurus (PT-111), and my oldest daughter "acquired" it when she needed something discrete several years ago. It worked fine, and I never had any problems. Actually, I have owned several Taurus pistols, and the only issue I ever had was cosmetic. The SCCY seems excellent, and I like the size better, but it ain't got much of a history, yet. This isn't like a major quest, and isn't urgent, but I'm definitely going to get one or the other, so all the info I get helps. Good video. Thanks!

It's a little smaller than a Glock 26 and holds 10 rounds in the standard mag and 12 in the extended mag! You can't beat 23 rounds of .45 in a 100% reliable sub compact!! JaQuin Allen I don't mind the CPX-1 but the mold for the safety has a tendency to dig into the web of my hand between my thumb and index finger.

SIG 2022, the law enforcement and the militarily in France had the problem that the entire gun fall apart in the holster. SIG had to replace ther gun otherwise they would have lost the government contract. SIG P 320 not drop-safe. SIG 365, Fire Pin Breaks, Trigger Spring breaks, FTF, FTE, FT allmost everything...... And that is only the SIG...

I’ve had my G2 since it came out and it’s never had any issues, it’s not the tightest gun but I feel comfortable carrying it. And it looks like Taurus perfected the trigger issue with the G2C.

I'm still seeing a lot of dead travel and snagging on the G2C trigger. Something catched when you pull back the trigger and don't have your finger perfectly centered over the trigger.

I'm also a trouble free happy G2 owner. I love the trigger. It got better as time went on as most do. Shooting off the reset is super sweet. I may still get the stainless steel recoil rod from Lakeline but mine has been fine so far. I dry fired the Sccy at my local gun shop. It's ok, I guess, if you don't mind the super long reset and double action pull but it's not for me.

I hated the trigger on the Taurus so much that I sold it. the SCCY on the other hand has an awesome trigger but to be fair I have carried a revolver for years and prefer a D.A.O. trigger.

Alton Worlie I don't disagree with you on that. I prefer the SCCY trigger as it does remind me, too of of double action revolvers.

Too many horror stories with Taurus, I like my CPX-2. Just takes lots and lots of trigger practice.

@@JusticeForSome nah, after about 1K rounds I was able to shoot with it effectively. I never said that I liked it. In later videos my CPX 2 basically fell apart so I have long since parted ways with it.

@@travisp11 In general it should take one maybe two magazines to get a feel for any trigger regardless of the gun. Multiple trips to the range...are you kidding me? KZitem has become a tool for people like you to bitch about all things you don't like. The problem is you act like a firearms expert when you're not. Tell me of this perfect firearm that everyone loves...I mean you being an expert and all.

I enjoy your vids. You introduced the sccy as 4 inches high and 5.7 inches long. I hope you could re-measure and report your findings. You make a good point when you say that folks look for something more compact than a HighPoint for just a little more money. My sccy was a saga in itself. Choose the G2 all day. Thank you.
