I had a 1978 Chevy Monza from 1983 till 1992 with similar interior, as it aged the finish would flake off the plastic. So painting this Yugo interior would maybe cause more plastic flaking making it all look worse as it aged or it could hold it together as long as the paint worked well with the plastics. For me, I'd leave it alone, still keeping some of the car's originality.

Watching this video I felt very nostalgic. 1991 while I was just a child my family escaped civil war in croatia in Yugo, we went to Bosnia and later to Serbia. Many years later I learn to drive in it and had many nice memories with it. Many speeding tickets too! On highway I was getting 120km easily and it was Koral 45 with Dinamit Blue 9C color. Very weird how I remember that, never needed painting, had galvanized chassis. Never had any problems with it and we had it for I think 7 years. Now I am in Canada and watching this video making me want to have one again. It reminds me on pieces of my youth between wars. Please don't mock it, this was car from 80-is and it was decent comparing to other vehicles from that age.

I had a red, with grey interior, 1987 Yugo, paid $6300 (that's Canadian dollars, probably like$4300 USD). Its top speed was around 145Kmh (about 90 mph). One day I was in a hurry to get to Montreal, so I left Quebec City and put the literal pedal to the metal. 140 miles later I ear a siren, look in my rear view mirror, its the police. I did get a ticket, he said I'm just going to give you a 125kmh ticket, because 145kmh ticket was like 400$.. cost me $150 + fees. I also got a ticket on the day I bought it... which makes me the first _and_ the second guy to get a ticket in a Yugo! ;)

The strongest Yugo that came out of the Zastava factory is the 230HP YUGO GVX-R. This Yugo was built in 1988 in Kragujevac by Zastava Yugo Motorsport. The engine was worked by the chief engineer at Zastava, Goran Pavlović, on the order of Konstantin Selaković and Jimmie Jumonville. The two compete in the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) championship in the USA and are invincible in their class. It is interesting to note that several times they were even in the fight for the first place in the general classification where their competitors were Vipers, Porsches, Mazdas and other road eaters. This Yugo can compare in every aspect with Abarth automobiles, this car has been featured in foreign and domestic television shows and magazines. Now a little about the technical characteristics, which are very interesting. Vehicle type: front engine, front wheel drive, 3 door hatchback. Engine: 230hp @ 11000rpm, 4 cylinders in line, aluminum head, 1503ccm, 14.5:1 compression, two 45mm DCOE Webers, teck 2 ignition, belt driven single overhead cam, two valves per cylinder (intake valve diameter 40mm, exhaust valve diameter 34mm ), “Carrillo” rods, modified piston top. The engine is prepared by Zastava Yugo Motorsport chief engineer Goran Pavlovic. Performance: pulls 1.3 g's, max. speed 233.5kmh (145mph) with 3.07 ring/pinion, 0-60mph 4.3sec, 1/4 miles 12.8sec with 4.07 ring/pinion. Transmission: 5 speed gearbox, close ratio, limited slip (Alquati), quick steering rack (40% less travel). Front brakes: "Brembo" self-ventilating drilled discs. Rear brakes: "Brembo" drilled discs. Wheels: 7inch Panasport. Suspension: McPherson, coil springs, "Koni" shock absorbers, anti-roll bar. … And the interior is arranged according to FIA rules, so anatomical seats, safety belts, fire extinguishers, roll bar... This Yugo was mentioned 3 times in the SCCA "Sports Car" magazine, once in the "Auto" magazine and once in the newspaper "Vesti".

My dad was a mechanic for most of his early life. The one car he actually misses was their old 86 yugo due to how simple it was to take apart and put together again. He would do that once a month and kept the thing running till the late 90s, early 2000s. My mom actually got a written warning ticket in one for getting clocked at 90mph for which she has framed. Only reason it wasn't an actual speeding ticket was according to the cop "No sane judge would believe a Yugo could speed that fast." The finally got rid of it in I think early 2000s due to it no longer passing smog.

The tan color version was for the USA predominantly, and considered more beautiful in Europe but nobody had it except for some exceptions... Try to find a GVX bumper for the front delete, a steering rack with new tie rods endings and please let the vanilla beige 220 oem color! And if you want to shoot the bird down, add some wood trims at the side! Also change the steering wheel blinker handels, these you have are grey and they are not faded, but presumably changed, get some in tan tone.

sweet. I like how the new tires change the car overall. This color, even the interior was the one my dad bought in the late 80s. After just a few months of driving it, my dad had to use the e-brake to stop, the brakes were somehow unusable, I don't know what happened. I loved that car as a little kid, I thought it looked cool. seeing the colors on everything is nostalgic.

The car that jumped off the mackinaw bridge in a storm, never found the driver. My pal did a project on one of these in the 1980s for ASC turning it into a hydraulically operated convertible.

Most people forget that the Yugo was based on the Fiat Strada. It was called the Strada in the US when it was briefly offered..

It actually looks aggressive from the front. Never seen a Yugo that gave me a desire to actually own it until I saw this.

That bumper delete makes it look surprisingly modern. And as for the Trabant, may I suggest an Abarth engine? No idea of they're available around you but the silliness would be quite enjoyable

When painting interior plastics, I HIGHLY recommend using SEM paints

That is one of the funnest things, I would drive the wheels off it too. It needs exhaust as well to take advantage of that fiery "big block" and individual carbs! For the interior, SEM makes fantastic products, I've used them with much success on old stuff!

the fog lights and the bigger tires make me think of old rally cars....... a rally yugo sounds really dumb and terrifying and fun
