Local products are priced in Peso and the reason for this is that the DTI (Department of Trade and Industry) provides suggested retail prices (SRP) in Peso. Products priced in Dollar on the other hand, are imported goods and are tax free.

Bob's Red Mill is definitely one of the best brands for flour, this is what we stock at home too. For the sake of comparison, BRM unbleached all purpose here in Las Vegas cost around 5 USD. I noticed the store there in Subic has it for 9.35 USD. A little bit higher considering they have to pay to ship it across the Pacific Ocean and they probably have to pay import tax as well. Good job on your pizza, it looks like it turned out really well!

I used to prepare pizza pies using available pizza doughs and pizza sauce quick melt cheese and mozarella cheese. For my Slimmers Fantasy pizza, I used lean meat like lean bacon or any lean meat (I saute them for a minute) add onion rings, sliced green bell pepper, sliced tomatoes. For my Vegetarian Delight, I used sliced button mushrooms, onion rings, sliced green bell pepper and sliced tomatoes. In both pizzas, I put quick melt cheese first before the toppings and finish it up with mozarella cheese. To cook the pizzas, I placed them in my big oven toaster for 5-7 minutes with only the bottom heating element on so as not to burn the toppings and cheese.

I guess since Subic used to be a US military base, US currency serves as another option for purchasing retailed items in some places to this day there in Subic. This is maybe because a lot of expats who have married a Filipino most likely have chosen to remain in the Philippines as dual citizens. That’s my take.

If you are planning on buying more fresh veggies and fruits, visit the Olongapo City Public Market at Rizal Avenue, East Bajac-Bajac (pronounced Bah-huck x2). Easiest route is out the main gate, take Magsaysay Street all the way to the end and make a right which is Rizal Avenue. Follow that road for a couple kilometers the market is to your right, if it still has the blue roof you won't miss it and it says East Bajac-Bajac Public Market. BTW, Magsaysay Street used to be the entertainment alley waaaaay back during the US Naval Base days. I as a Navy personnel who used to be stationed there as well as all military personnel were endearingly called "Station Dito" literally translated as: "stationed here". Magsaysay was our playground as it was lined full of clubs, bars, dance clubs.....lots of outstanding live bands. Subic Bay was the highlight of a ship's WestPac (Western Pacific) deployment and everyone looked forward to that port visit. Still has it's nightlife but not as raucous and lively as the heydeys of the base. Now the entertainment establishments are mostly centered inside SBMA=Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority.

I think the dollar price is for easy conversion purposes because there are still some americans living in there. And to Mike, I think the heavy rain is the same what you have experienced before, but it just seems to hit hard now because you live under a house roof where you can hear it in a much louder scale, unlike when you live in a condo where you hear the rain from the glass windows alone :) Have a nice day!

When there are things that you don't know, the best thing to do is to ask the employees there. Or you can even ask the ordinary shoppers there as to why there are two prices (peso and dollar). The same can be said anywhere you go. Like you go to a restaurant and you don't know how to eat a certain food. Ask the waiters.
