The mannequins used to be made out of straw and other stuffing like materials, but they can still collect moisture and start rotting, or the stuffing can shift around. Older stuffed mounts will look... Misshapen in weird ways. With the newer mounts it's faster and cleaner, but you still need to carve the thing to fit the skin perfectly.

I thought similarly. My brother has a few that he hunted (the rest was turned into jerky which I still think tastes better than slim jims) and the thought of "They put the skin back on a mannequin" never once crossed my mind. My brother and his friends once skinned a deer in our front yard (dont remember why) and watching that was less nauseating or painful? than when the limp hide was flopping on screen. Not hating just saying this isnt what I expected and at the moment grosses me out but I might find it fascinating later

My dad did this after he retired and taught me a lot about every step of the process. He mostly did birds though, but put out some beautiful pieces. I wish he was still around to make more..

@@justsomeghost8440 The point of taxidermy is exclusively purposing a dead animal onto a mount for display whether it's education or other. Not all animals are killed for taxidermy, many people use roadkill as a way to not let the remains go to waste. It's a very beautiful art form that pays great respect to the animal in my opinion.

I know a little bit about everything that's how I feel with videos like this. I now have information that I may never use again for the rest of my life.
